Because it doesn't make sense! I will take will take an F10 550i xdrive msport with Dinan stage 2 all day long over a $100k oil burner and pay for 1 yr of college for one of my kids with the savings.

I think BMW wants nothing to do with the costly emissions system they'd have to add in order to meet regulations in North America.

I think it could meet existing regulations in North America, everywhere except California. Getting "50-state legal" means meeting California's stricter emissions requirements.

Well I say F*** California.

I haven't read it anywhere but, are they doing gasoline versions of the "M performance" line as well or is this basically just the M division for the diesel versions?

I've also not seen any mention of LSD in these vehicles either. That would be nice to have.

Also, so as a recap we now have the iS moniker, BMW performance parts, M sport, the actual M division, Alpina and now M performance spread over various makes and models of BMW vehicles but, no diesel 3 available at launch in the US. Wow.

Apparently the U.S. 335d has been cancelled by BMW for the F30 generation as they will instead focus on the 3 Active Hybrid. http://www.auto123.com/en/news/2012-...mpaign=blog-en

Meanwhile, Audi is about to make a serious diesel push in the US. A6, A8, and Q5 with their new 3.0tdi motor have been confirmed to be coming to the US in 2012/2013-- and by 2015 every new Audi sold in the US will have a diesel option (not sure if that includes the R8, but Audi did say "every new model")

I wouldn't rule out the return of a 6-cylinder diesel... the article makes it sound like it was cancelled just for the US, but in fact it's not available in any country for 2012. Given the advancements BMW is making in their diesels, why wouldn't they bring it to the 3 series? And while they're at it.... the 5-series!

Automobile Magazine claims that BMW intends to bring over the 4 cylinder diesel in the 3 series. I can't post a link because the info is only in the magazine (iPad in my case), and not on the website.

I think BMW will do whatever it has to to meet upcoming fuel economy regs, and I have a hard time believing that 2 mode transmission "hybrids" will get them where they need to be. It will get really interesting for BMW as a brand when the new fwd shitboxes start showing up.
