06 325xi - Transmission leak

I just went in for my last service visit under warranty (it expires 1/24) I have almost 88,000 miles on my car. The SA told me the mechanic found a transmission leak and that I should fix it in the next 3-4 months. He quoted me around $700.

Is this not covered under the warranty? He told me that this is a mechanical problem and it is not covered. Should I look into buying a 3rd party warranty?

Should I look into other auto shops to fix it or go with BMW? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Tranny is supposed to be covered under warranty. My tranny pan was found to be cracked and leaking at my 100k shakedown and they covered it under warranty.

Edit: I have the extended warranty (well, not anymore). Do you have CPO or none?

Get a quote to fix it at a good third party shop. BMW shop labor is really expensive but the parts themselves aren't too bad so you can prolly save a couple hundred bucks that way.

No my car isn't a CPO. I bought it brand new in 2006 and paid extra for the extended warranty to 6 years or 100,000 miles. My 6 years are up on 1/24. Do you suggest me calling the other dealer on Monday and finding out if its covered or not? I thought it was weird that he said to come back in 4 months to fix it. So I asked him if I could fix it before the warranty is up and he said nope, its a mechanical problem.

That dealer is full of shit. If mechanical problems aren't covered under warranty then what is?

You can try a tug of war with them to get them to fix it under warranty but if this is the stance they've taken then 1) that will be a very long fight with many equally BS excuses and 2) they'll be less inclined to do a good job. Take it elsewhere IMO, the fact is that you have warranty right now and that it should be covering the tranny.

Sounds like the dealer wants you to come back and have it fixed when it is indeed out of warranty so that he can make $300 on labor.

Gaskets are covered, http://cache.bmwusa.com/pdf_3927f5d4...2-dce774027bde

Edit, except if you got the power train plus warranty, the gasket is deleted when you compare it to the gold warranty! Ugh. Hopefully yours is gold.

Let us know how it goes.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
