Finally got my 335
I've been on here for years. Yesterday I picked up a 2007 Black Sapphire Metallic 335 on Terra Black interior 44,000 miles. It doesn't have the sport package and no i-drive but those weren't musts for me. I got a very good deal on it and it's still under warranty until December.
Obligatory pic of the car: That's my CR-V in the background. I have to have something in Indiana for all this salt and some terrible roads. It's a great car and very reliable. The biggest decision was not whether or not to buy a 335 but to keep my E36 M3. Well, I did and I'm very glad (especially since I just replaced the cooling system!). I now have my Auto-X track car, that I can still take anywhere, and the much more refined 335. Pic of the M3: Plans for the 335... well I am definitely getting new wheels and some H&R sport springs come this spring (maybe sooner). I'd like to stay at 18's and just do a square 18x8.5 or 18x9 setup. Would 8.5 even be a good amount of grip (assuming FR235/REAR245)? I already have CSL's on my E36 so I believe I'm going to get VMR V710s in black or gunmetal. Blackline taillights (OEM)? or can I get something similar to LED LCI taillights (that aren't junk)? I also bought this car because of the engine. So naturally I'd like to tune it. I mentioned earlier it's under warranty until 12/09/2012. I understand the basics about JB4 but don't know if that's worth it seeing as I would remove it every time I had work at the dealer (though since it's the CPO warranty I don't expect this to be often). Is it worth waiting a few months or even the year and then putting it on? Or is something like the JB+ easy/quick to install/remove? I plan on driving the car without a tune for at least a few months to get a feel for it. The last thing I need to do is find a USB/iPod adapter. Any good place to snag one of those besides EAS or **********s? Sorry for the long post but I'm excited. Last edited by Bavarian13; 02-02-2012 at 07:20 PM.. |

Look on eBay for the iPod adapter. I saw a brand new one, OEM, for $200.
Also, look into Cobb Accessport too. It's like JB4, but it has different maps to compliment other tunes you do. As for exterior mods. Black kidney grills, smoked side markers (bimmian.com), cover up the chrome window trim, and blackline taillights. Go for the OEM taillights, I bought mine from StealthAuto thinking they were OEM, they weren't. I had to use a dremel to make the bulb housing fit properly on the left one. I saved $200, but I would rather get the OEM if I was doing it again. |

Are you saying you can plug a flash drive into the USB port? |

Interesting. Also, if you just need the iPod cable you can get those OEM on ebay too, just be cautious to not get a Chinese knockoff. I got mine for $15, used OEM.

I'd go with Cobb, JB4, or Procede. As far as warranty issues go, you will only need to remove the tune if your dealer is not friendly to mods. These cars will have problems tuned or stock, and very few warranty issues can be caused by tunes.
Cobb plugs into the OBD port and flashes a new program into the DME. Same process to undo a tune. It's the easiest, just takes time. The Procede and JB4 are piggyback which requires mechanical disassembly to remove. Neither of them are very hard to undo, about 30 minutes max.

If you have the Aux / USB socket in the armrest (6FL option) then you just need the BMW "Y" cable which you can find on Ebay for about $20. If your car didn't come with this then there are alot of options you'll have to research. It IS possible to retrofit the 6FL option too.

Welcome to the Family, but you should have both a 335i with a sport package so it had the "Oil Cooler"
you are going to love the car nevertheless. keep good care of her.

Forget jb+ go for a real tune jb4 procede cobb
I would personally get an oil cooler retrofit since you do t have sports pack that means no oul cooler. Its not expensive, you could diy it for 250$ First start off with tune and then go from there, IMO jb4 dci catless downpipes and youll be a happy man! |

I will probably go JB4 based on what I've read. Cobb would be my second choice. But I'm going to wait until I am accustomed to the car. Right now, I'm still commuting in the CRV due to salt, snow, sand, etc.
I picked up a iPod cable on ebay, good call. Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. I'm going to be far more active on here than I was in the past. Edit: Do I need the oil cooler if this is just going to be a street car (No track/Auto-x)? Honestly, I'll have my indy do it as opposed to myself or the stealership. I have an 07 335i as well, non awd. Black with saddle, i did the JB4 , dual cone, and DP's are on the way. I recommend taking off the secondary cat, i like a little louder sound with out drone or rasp.
I did all the black out stuff as well. If you want a pic PM me.

I'm a Procede guy myself, waiting for Cobb ATR for custom tuning capabilities. The PWM meth setup is so buttery smooth.

First time I've heard that and it's awesome! I'm going to call my SA this week to talk to him and get it in for a few things before I jump on the mod train (well, performance mods that is). Tint and black kidneys will be done this week. I'll post some pictures when I get that done. I feel like the car is naked. My M3 is exactly how I wanted it, so this is a little change of pace. |

I suppose I'd be looking for the easiest setup to remove; however, that is subject to change if my SA tells me they are "mod friendly." |
