Spring Detail on 2009 335i Coupe

Well over the winter I have been getting a detailing kit together. All Griots Garage including the orbital buffer with the exception of 2 absorber chamois. Now my question is should I take it to a proffesional detailer for ($200) first and then maintain it from there or just start with my detailing? It has heavy salt buildup from winter.

Also is there any special way to detail an engine? I am kind of afraid to mess up my engine.

Thanks.
