Don't know how this happened but I'm happy

I looked and searched but could not find a way to silence or at least minimize the "fasten seat belt alarm". Then out of nowhere, it suddenly only chimes twice. The seat belt symbol shows, but the chimes don't carry on as before. Don't know how long this has been going on as I just seemed to become oblivious to the thing. Once I let it go about thirty times, caved, belted up and drove away.

This almost makes me wonder if is symptomatic of other or bigger problems. Time will tell. For now I'm happy.

Easiest way to silence the seat belt chime is to put your damn seat belt on.

Never will understand people who don't wear a seatbelt. They're just Darwin Award Winners in waiting.

because it is their right not to wear one.... dont worry about why they dont want to... if you dont know, dont give your 2cents if they dont ask for it...

i think the only way to get rid of it is to have the chime coded not to ding...

or get one of these...

I never drive off unfastened. I may be in the car doing something prior to driving away. Thank you for your input. Now correct your spelling.

I drive cars around a parking lot/ramp all day and there is no need to buckle up for that... but the chime is everpresent --annoying!

Actually, in the US, it is not their right to not wear one. It is against the law. I'm not worried about why they don't want to. The why is not pointless. They are breaking the law, and even without the law they are being patently stupid.

Good for you, sorry for my rant. When I'm doing the same, I usually just put on the seatbelt or leave the car in ACC mode.

Yeah, but the chime was designed for the 99.99% of the time the car is being driven, so ya' gotta deal with it.

yes that chime is damn annoying. I take off my seatbelt to swipe my access card at work. then I drive for another minute to get to my parking space. In my old car I don't even bother putting my seatbelt back on. Totally unnecessary.

And when I was putting on my winters I had to leave one rim on the passenger seat to fit everything. goddamn that was annoying. Kept driving with the damn chime going and no way I could shut it off.

With the one exception of New Hampshire - for those over 18, IIRC.

I often haul a few 40 lb bags of wood pellet fuel in my front seat. It's really simple to buckle the belt prior to loading.

In my old 95 Accord back in college, I spilled a drink on the seat belt latch on the driver's side, it caused the seat belt chime to never go away whether or not I was latched in.. strangely enough, unplugging the harness or whatever that was plugged in to the seat belt latch under the seat got rid of the chime.

That was good news, because I was a poor college student who couldn't afford even a second hand seat belt latch.

Yeah, just looked it up. http://www.iihs.org/laws/SafetyBeltUse.aspx

NH is the only state. Your post did lead me to some Googling and apparently there was quite the fight over this in the New Hampshire legislature.

You need to educate yourself on what "rights" are and stop diluting the meaning of the word.

My last thought in this thread.

I used to have an automobile insurance agent who stated on numerous occasions that he refused to wear a seat belt. His reasoning(?) was that in the event of an accident, he wanted to be thrown clear. I kid you not. I really liked the guy, but what an assinine thing to say especially with the statistics available at his fingertips.

Several months after the first time I heard this lunacy out of his mouth, there was a rollover accident locally and one of the girls involved was decapitated. Not belted in. Message seems clear to me.

Girl I went to HS with died in a single car accident about three months ago when her car hit a tree and then she hit her windshield and then the tree b/c she wasn't wearing her seat belt. Single mother who left her daughter of six or seven motherless because she wasn't wearing her seat belt. I felt horrible for her daughter, but it was hard for me to feel sympathy for my classmate knowing she very likely would still be alive if not for her choice not to wear her seat belt.

Sad

hmm maybe as an Insurance agent he has to pay out benefits to a lot of severely disabled people who would've just died quickly if they did not put on their seatbelt.

Not that I agree with his logic, just saying that his line of work might be giving him a different perspective than the rest of us. In the end its his life to risk.
