I have a 335d loaner right now

And I don't wanna give it back because the mpg is so damn good.

I'm not sure why everyone flips out about the torque though. This car still feels a lot slower (and a lot less fun) than my 335is which runs a lot less torque unless I'm using the extra boost.

Has to do with an extra 300 Lbs that you are lugging around... as well as the fact that the TQ runs out really quick and doesn't have the HP to match up top as the i models do.

you have 332tq at 1500 rpm where as we have 425 at 1750. yes its a difference but less noticeable since you are turned you have even more.

the point of this car is sacrificing a bit of performance, not much, a little yet gaining LOTS of mileage.

SO much more powerful than a stock 335i. I wasn't a believer until i drove one.

Yeah, I had one in Dec. I liked the mpgs--36 to 40. But it was odd how low it revved--1700 rpm at 70, and even when you stand on it the thing shifts at 2500 rpm. Considering my 335 got 32 mpg this weekend, it's probably more fun to settle for the 32. I think people like the torque because 400 sounds like a lot.

It is certainly a sacrifice in fun factor but if you aren't the type of person who is winding up their car to redline every day, I can see how the 335d is a killer daily driver. I'm not dying to get my car back after two days of not having it. The mileage is really fantastic.

Hard to describe the difference in acceleration feel but in a 335 the car has a slingshot pulling effect while the 335d feels like it is constantly pushing you forward hard

I dont see what isnt making sense. I drove a 335d immediately before a 335i and as skeptical as I was about the torque numbers, the 335d felt way faster.

I think a lot of people don't understand the relationship between torque to horsepower and which one matters when.

I agree. Im referring to how hard the car pulls.. or feels like its pulling.

and what was your average speed throughout that 32 mpg? do you think you could duplicate it? how boring was driving like a grandma?

I just drove from Orlando to NYC 1070 miles in 15 hours. That included stops. Take out the stops for food and fuel, (2 stops for fuel, 2 for food) and my drive time was 14 hours. That is an average speed of about 78 mph (i think thats what the computer said) My overall mileage average at 78mph was 36 mpg.

From Orlando to South Carolina my average speed was 85mph. I was pushin it, doing 95 on 95, accelerating hard, sometimes hitting 105-110 passing cars. by the time i filled up 530 miles later in south carolina, my average speed was 83 mph and gas mileage was 34mpg. the remainder from south carolina to new jersey, 10 miles from home i got 38 mpg. which was a bit slower and more hilly.

Find me a gas car that can duplicate. All the while staying smooth and quiet and giving me loads of passing power without downshifting.

Can anyone give me a realistic e90 335i RWD 6AT, gas mileage doing those kinds of speeds so i can calculate the fuel savings?

Why would you be skeptical about the torque numbers? the 335i has 300, the 335d has 425. The 0-60 on a 335d is something like 5.9 or 6 sec, that's way faster (about 1 sec) than a 328i but not a 335i. As someone pointed out, by 2200 rpm there is no more torque coming, you've got the full monte.

60-80 in 6th gear, 335i vs. 335d. d wins.

Yes the torque runs, but then the horsepower kicks in for a second. After that power falls of. Yeah it sucks but I'd rather have power down low where i need it for most of my driving, rather than uptop where i never am. all while getting better mileage.

now if i'm on a race track...well i wouldn't even want a turbo car. i'd want N/A gas.

I have a 2011 335d JBD, and one of the fastest 335i sedans around. Stock 335i against my JBD 335d is no comparison. The 335d is so much more entertaining to drive. The car has timed a 12.9 ET, and 0-60 in 4.5 seconds on the vbox. The best my stock sedan would achieve was around 13.4 seconds. I have also achieved 45mpg on a 100mph roundtrip to LAX. And even against the tuned 335i, the D makes torque so much more effortlessly around town without even breaking a sweat. Its just so weird to be flying by traffic and not even having to go beyond the 2000-3500rpm. Going up onramps with a load of people without even trying you can feel the car just accelerate so effortlessly. Sometimes you just feel the rear axle jar when accelerating over uneven pavement from all that torque. Best way to describe it is the 335d is best taking off from a stop or during slow speeds below 50mph it shines. Where the gas one shines when you gas it from 40mph on up. Two totally different powerbands, but both can be immensely fun.

Last year I drove from SF to LA, which was a 360 mile trip. With full tank at SF, I arrived in LA with about 3/8s of tank left. And I didn't drive slow at all. 3 digits in some places.

Fantastic, fantastic daily driver. Not the fastest, not the most efficient, but just a wonderful compromise between both.

335i e92(6MT) took it to the mountains I dont know my averages nor did i check but i got 400 miles on that tank, that includes going up the mountain driving around, coming back down the mountain and heading home + 2 days of going to work(60 miles). and i definitely dont drive like a grandma.

Which dealership is giving out 335d loaners?
