Just had mechatronics sleeve replaced due to trans leak, who else?

Curious, it seems this is a fairly common problem? I parked my recently purchased 335i on my driveway which is pretty steep and had a decent size puddle under it..

Luckily my used car dealership replaced it with no charge to me. Car has 72k miles, who else had to replace? Im thankful it was an easy repair.

Mine is getting done today on my 335i. Carmax warranty not paying the full amount tho. I'm stuck with $200 deductible and $138 additional that Maxcare warranty is not gonna cover....Only 29K on mine - wow. The SA said that yes i have low miles but since it's 4 years old..blah blah blah

i need to, i have dried gritty fluid buildup under and around that area. more like grime than anything else, but it is directly below and around the sleeve.

i haven't done it though because the idea of f-ing with a tranny at 149,000 miles is a bit scary. new fluid fears and all that. i might pull the fill plug sometime and check the level and/or top up.

I read and read all the threads with common issues with our cards.. but I guess I have been lucky with mine all this time...88k miles (knock on wood)

Anyway, I wonder how dificult and how expensive is to fix this issue? Anyone?

Thanks

Have you gone under the car and felt around the sleeve area? I had not either and when I did I found dirty grime. It can't be a bad leak though, all this time and I have never seen a single drop of tranny fluid (I have a painted garage floor that fluid can't soak into).

If you haven't yet, I would feel around that area next time you do an oil change or have the car up on a jack.

Yeah good idea. I will check again. I know last time I changed the oil (4 months ago) I checked arround the area and all seemed dry. By the way, I am missing the little plastic cap that we remove when changing oil. I wonder how long it has been like that...

Wow.....thought this issue was really bad only in 4.4 liter V8's. As I had to deal with that in both my 545i and 745i in past. But I guess I was wrong it is a issue with all BMW's thanks to the transmission flaw.

What are the symptoms of this other than the obvious fluid leak?

Thanks.

Hmm, I just noticed a very small leak last week. Occurred once and that was it. Still can't figure out what it was. Auto 06 325i, this could possibly be it. Any estimate if one was to take this to a shop, out of warranty?

Is this expensive to replace? Never heard of this problem before.
Do these trannys have a low fluid sensor? i guess it could get ugly if the leak is not found and repaired quickly.

Just as an FYI

When done as warranty work, they will not replace the fluid. They put the old fluid back in and top it off with new.

do it yourself
it is really easy
if you take it to a shop
it shouldn't cost more than $200-$300 for the labor plus parts
