Auto To Manual Tranny

How much do you guys think this would cost for our cars? Also, who do you think would be willing to take on such a job?

Unless you plan on keeping your car forever and can't live without a 6MT this is so not worth it. Parts alone will probably cost you about $3,000 and the price for labor alone would make you want to give up on this.

Doesn't make any sense to do that.

It's hard to say on an E90 right now, but I'd guess parts alone would easily be $2,000 to $3,000. And that's using mostly used stuff (transmission, driveshaft, differential, shift linkage, pedals, etc.)

I did the swap on my E36 about three years ago for roughly $1,200. But E36 Getrag manual transmission are well under $500 used. I think mine was $300. I slowly gathered parts over about one- years time as I found good deals. E36 parts are plentiful and relatively cheap.

Finding a shop willing to do it might be hard too. I just did mine myself in my garage- its quite straightforward. Took just one day to take everything apart and another to put it all back together.

The biggest hassle with the E90 will probably be the ECU. With the E36, there's simply a single bulb that illuminates the CEL ( four transmission related OBD2 codes get thrown). There you just take the bulb out and you'd never know anything was "wrong". Doesn't the E90 display issues on a little LCD screen? You'd need to reprogram the ECU with manual transmissions ECU software (if that's even possible on the E90). People do that on the E36 when they live in states with emission testing and cannot have present OBD2 codes.

Agreed that this is not even worth looking at. As a matter of fact I haven't read of anyone doing it on these forums.

Sell your car + get in a MT. MTs are harder to find but not that hard to find. Cars.com, ebay, etc.
