So who else has a vehicle completely out of warranty?

Bought mine at 76,000 miles for $16.5k, no warranty whatsoever. Just hit 79,000, only issue so far has been the door unlock fuse blowing. It was also sold to me with broken Adaptive Headlights feature (they just point straight), I just coded out the error. Possibly needs a new headlight (some condensation on one side), but looks like relatively smooth sailing for the time being. Anyone else braving the post-warranty adventure?

Well my maintenance warranty ends in 2/12 and then I go into CPO so I'm not that afraid. Lol. I am milking the crap out of the 4/50,000 replacing a bunch of stuff at the dealership.

My cousin did that with his M3 (E36). He got a good 12 years out of it and it cost him around 26k in maintenance and repairs (he kept all the receipts). A buddy with a 550i also did that, and he got burned for 4k in repairs within 6 mos. It's a game of chance, and I can imagine it's fun when you win. You have to look at it as 16.5 is below avg., so if you have a 3k repair, you're still not up to the avg. price so you didn't lose.

There's $1300, probably was hit on that side and repaired.

I kept my '99 E46 328i sedan for 6 years after the warranty expired. Maintenance and repairs (including tires) averaged about $1,000 per year.

82k miles and finally having my first issue. Totally self induced though. Used gunk cleaner and now I have a squeaking tensioner pulley. Other than that I dont regret purchasing at all.

Mine 328i has no warantee, only 55k, no issues yet. Purchased with a few months left under factory warantee.

I dread my warranty running out, but will likely jump on the new X4 or an X1 when we get them. 10/13 is when mine expires.

My '07 328i has 85k miles, out of warranty for awhile. So far, only issue was bad serpentine belt tensioner (cost ~280 to fix).

Still on my orig front brake pads. CBS shows 26k more miles.

Car feels solid knock on wood

I've been extremely lucky. My '07 335i Coupe is out of warranty, though I bought a vehicle service contract through Toyota (I bought my car at a Toyota dealership). The contract isn't as comprehensive as BMW's CPO warranty, but it's better than nothing. The car is in mint condition according to the service indicator. I plan on keeping the car for 3 years then trading it in on another 335i.

The reason why I say that I'm lucky is because it is obvious that this car was not driven a whole bunch despite the mileage (even the mileage is below average considering the age .. basically a little over 10K a year). There's some scratches on the rear bumper and deck lid, but none on the hood. The interior looks brand new.

I feel for the previous owner who I imagined had a growing family and needed a bigger car or SUV.

Was the error permanently on your dash? Do you know what code was being thrown? I had 9CBE being thrown in my car, which is a communications error with the driver's side AHL module. (9CBF would be the passenger side)

I got a used SMC II (AHL) module from a member on here for $90. Normally, you need to program then code the module. But if you get a used one that is programmed and coded for the same model, you can just swap it in.

I just replace mine and it works fine. You can find them on eBay for about $100 and they same AHL module is also used in E60s.

I'm about to run out of my warranty this May. :/

'06 330i bought in Feb '09 with 107K miles. Now at 133K, no major issues (blower motor replaced, seat mat sensor replaced by recall, other stuff is all maintenance). Spending less than $1K/yr on maintenance. Happy.
