Diesel Down
Drunk drives are out early guys.
On a side note, your diesel can take a t-bone from a small truck and you'll be fine. Anyone have experience totaling a car out? She has 4500 miles! |

Sorry to hear about that man. Usually damage has to be around 70 something percent of the car value for the insurance company to total it. If they end up fixing it just remember to make sure your steering wheel isnt off center. I was in T-bone as will and my steering wheel got thrown off alignment and a alignment didnt fix it and the shop never fix it that what i think . I talked to a bmw mech and he said something removing the steering and had realign it that way that why the shop that i had my car fix didnt fix it. My Car was in the shop for like 2.5 months had it repaint like 5 times and still couldnt match the color. so i end up selling the car and went with a diesel. Also Just bring it to a BMW Repair Center dont go to any home grown shop i have very bad they have a hard problem matching bmw paint for some odd reason.

Rakimb17, ouch! Sorry about the horrible damage, but most importantly, glad that you are okay after that accident! How many of the airbags deployed during the crash?
I'm not so sure it looks like it would be a write-off and there have been several cases of rather severe looking damage actually being repaired by a reputable BMW-certified collision center and having the car return to near/if not original performance. Looking at the apparent damage, I'm not so sure that the core of the unibody structure has been compromised. Certainly they'll need to follow all the force paths (frame, panel, suspension and steering, etc...) to ensure that all damage paths are properly identified and evaluated for damage. Hope things work well for you! Regards D.

I would find it hard to believe that there is no chassis damage but I hope for you there isn't! Such a shame...

Thanks guys.
The drivers side door sill is chewed up pretty good and there was the bend in the post where the back door hinge is. I'll see if I have a better pic of it. The is outside under the drivers door. |

None of the airbags went off! When I got back inside to start her up there was a restraint system fault with a pick of the airbag?
Yes I was wearing my seat belt. Quote:

I found this salvage that looks no where near as bad as mines. Same car as mines minus sport package I think. More miles!
http://www.salvage-cars-for-sale.inf...11-Mjg1NzkwNjE I'm going to try to total it out. BMW shop says they are a month behind right now anyway. Any suggestions from experience. USAA wont get around to appraisal until Thursday. |

Take it to a BMW certified shop regardless of what USAA tells you to do. Only they can match the paint and put everything back together. Hopefully there is more than 1 BMW certified body shop in your area.
That salvaged 335d is 20 minutes from my house. And you are right, it doesn't look too bad, but i'm curious of what kind of frame damage it had to sustain in order to be a write off for the insurance company.

I had an 08 M3 In white and the body shop couldnt match the paint for there life had them repaint it five times and i was just so piss off i just took the car. Remember to have them remove all the molding cause my paint started to chip after a month i had it and so brought it back to the shop and had them fix it again and the area they fix didnt even match the area they paint. If you have wait for a month i would wait plus it will be easier to deal with a deal if you have problem with your car then a private own shop. USAA will let you choice a body shop of your choice even if it is higher then there estimate it the law. Good luck with eveything

4500 miles? Wow, she's just a baby. When all is said and done, glad you walked away unharmed.

Glad you are ok. I had my diffuser painted twice and found some South African paint that matched really good. The certified Mercedes/Audi shop couldn't come close using their Home Depot PPG paint matching machine.
The factory paint, I believe, is water borne. You will be hard pressed to find anyone doing that here, even certified BMW.

Body shop says she is repairable. Will take about 6 weeks.
They will pretty much cut out all of the cancer (bent stuff) and replace it. The entire bottom frame rail and the B-pillar will be replaced. Lots of $$$. No straightening according to the body shop guy. USAA will make the call tomorrow. |
