I think it's something like only 5 to 10% of the ones sold in the US are manual-equipped. What I found when looking at used ones was that the manual cars were more likely to have been modded to the point of the warranty being revoked. I also noted that these cars seemed to have been thrashed more than automatics. As a result, I ordered new and picked it up Euro delivery. Too late for the E90's do to that, but the F30's will be out soon. Otherwise, good luck with your search.
PS: It seemed like there were a ton of black cars with manual, but not as many other colors. Here in the sunny South, black is the absolute worst color to own, as it gets hot in the summer and is a pain to keep clean. I wanted white, which seemed to be harder to find with a manual.

This is what I wanted... and with M-Sport package... and I actually found it. Just really lucky. Your best bet is a lease return or "factory demonstrator" which is what I got. Just have to be patient, diligent in your search and open to traveling. Check out the details of my search here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=618026

yes the manuals are much more difficult to find than automatics but, trust me, it's worth to be patient and find a manual one if you desired the joy of shifting up and down..

It took me 3 months last spring to find a manual coupe w/spt pkg/xenon and premium sound, then low and behold a guy traded on in on a Audi S5 at the Audi dealer next to my house. I waited until they were about to send to auction as they have a tough time in downtown selling a manual coupe in city with a bad commute. Space Gray w/red leather to boot! Simple Mods included rear lip, debadge and front aero spoiler..and old school pintstripes! Dumped the RFT tires for Hankooks and best part, I bought it with 51K miles on it, sold it year later with 66K miles, same price as I paid...not too shabby I might say.

It was hard for me to find a manual 128i. I was told by one medium sized dealership they did NOT carry manuals period (new car inventory). I was further told by the salesman that in a metro area you aren't going to find manual cars. I finally found a manual, and at that dealership the salesman told me after i bought the car, he had to fight with the manager to convince him that they should have a couple of manual cars in stock.

Or rarer yet, a 6spd rwd e91... Thank God BMW does special orders - and European Delivery!

In early 2009, I wanted a CPO 328xi manual coupe. When I bought mine, there were only like a dozen of those nationwide on bmwusa.com CPO finder.

They're out there, just keep looking. Like some of these guys said, it can take a while to find one. Took me 1 full year before I found one and even then I had to compromise on my color combo lol

I got lucky and found a loaded, CPO 6 spd '07 328i wagon in perfect shape last year - at a reasonable price! But the other 4 BMWs I've owned have all been special ordered, as finding the exact combination of color & equipment with a MT in dealer stock is always difficult. Tom |

6MT is standard. Most Americans would rather have AT. I was lucky and didn't have to special order, but that was five years ago.
I love my MT e90. GL with your search.
