Thinking of Buying 335is Need Help
I'm thinking of buying a 335is. My question is has the HPFP issue finally been resolved? Is there reliability issues with the N54 engine in the 335is? I test drove the car today and loved it! My only concerns is the reliability issues with the engine. I have been driving a 330i ZHP for the last 8 years with no problems. It's been a great car for me. I don't want to trade in a car I love and be cursing the 335is if it has HPFP problems. Thanks for your help.

Yes we have seen HPFP failures on the 335is, not a ton, but they do happen. Not many lemons if any like the older models. The problem is not fixed yet entirely, but shouldn't be a major concern either at this point if you are planning a purchase.
As for your question specifically, the problem didn't magically go away in 2012 models, unfortunately. |

I was in the same shoes before pulling the trigger on my 335is. But honestly, it's a well known problem which has a quick and well known solution (minus the inconvenience) . It's really too bad the HPFP problem exists, but it's pretty rare, and the car offers so much more, imo it's worth it even with this problem. (just think of it as car PMS... )

Get it! The 335is is such a blast to drive...you won't even care if the HPFP were to blow up every now and then.
There has been the rare instance of HPFP failure on the 335is...but seems to have become more of a progressive degeneration with low power, warnings, rough idle etc., rather than the abrubt failures like in the past. 6000 miles on my 335is...the HPFP thought does pop into my head every now and then when we leave on trips...but she's been solid and have had no problems so far. Love the car! |

He means exactly that. Everyone sort of gets annoyed with HPFP questions, they are covered until 120K miles so you should be fine

I still cannot get over this car and want to drive it ALL the time. The thing is silly fast, looks incredible...and the exhaust note is pure sex. The cold start will give you goose bumps every single time. I had been bitten by a HPFP failure in my previous 09 335 and, like you, wanted to go with an S4 when I was looking for a replacement for the 335 earlier this year. Scheduled a test drive for the S4 and went over to check it out, but the S4 just did not get me excited. The 335is however was just pure , and I decided to go with the N54 again...HPFP issues be damned. No regrets! Oh..btw, I switch between the 335is and my E36 M3 (comparable to the ZHP), and the 335is makes the M3 feel like it's chained down to a post. Did I mention this thing is stupid fast. Go for it...you will love it. |

No, they're not. Only certain years have the hpfp covered for 120k. Idk why you guys are hard on the guy - it's a 60k expense on his part, and he just wants to make sure it's not an expense that he'll regret. From what he's told us, it sounds like he's at least searched the forums, and he's correct in saying that there's next to no information regarding hpfp problems on the IS, or on any 2011 or new MY cars. |

I just ordered 2012 335is as a replacement for my 3-pump 4yr old 335 coupe. I just love the car so much. Coming off Dinan stage 2 will be some power loss on the 335is. But I know I will be happy, 6mt, too! I only drove DCT for test drive, nice automatic, shifts fast, but still automatic, lol. Nobody buys manual cars anymore...
Decided to not get the M3 because for what I need out of it, the turbo car gives me all of it. Not talking down the all-star M3 coupe, great car for the track, the ultimate naturally aspirated high revving motor experience! I just need a daily driver with the right mix for me. So I chose the car that has a small weakness, but if you take all the pros and cons, it is still a winner, for me and my needs. The pump never stranded me, first was replaced after long cranks warning and second was replaced under the recall even though there was nothing wrong with it. Biggest pain was getting Dinan put back on after the pump services. I read the 335is's still have pump issues, but it never was a big deal for me. It will be serviced if needed, that's why there is a warranty. I'd be scared more of active steering after reading the other guy's post and his bad dealer experience in AZ, Get it and don't look back, enjoy your life while you can...

I had a HPFP issue with my 2011 335i xDrive coupe (N55, not N54 like the 335is). So HPFP issues are still around, they're just a lot less prevalent.
