Lightbulb Key Fob Question

So I bought a new key fob shell off ebay and replaced the broken spare one I had. At first it worked fine and it was unlocking and loking the car just fine. Well it has stopped working on the doors and it will only start the car if it is in the key slot

Any ideas on if I can fix this myself or is this going to be a dealer fix ?

If the car starts, go for an hour long drive on the freeway. Our keys are charged while we are driving. I plan on doing this with my spare key when I come home for Christmas. I do it every Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring, and Easter break since I am away at university.

You bought a key from from Ebay, that is your problem.

I paid 200 euros for a new key fob (minus the metal key) with coding for CA from my german dealer. You need a new key.

So your battery may be low because it is never being charged. I don't have CA on my keys. Hey, just stick it in there, just this once. You know you want too

No I bought the plactic parts from ebay not the inside of the key. I reused that part from the factory key case. The factory one was missing the battery door when I bought the car.

Putting it in the keyslot with the hopes of recharging it WILL NOT HAPPEN...If u have CA and your key isn't working i.e unlock door when u walk up to car, you either have a dead/bad battery or something more serious. 90% of time is a dead battery or soon to be dead. These batteries needs to be replaced every 2-3 years for optimum performance.

If YOU DO NOT HAVE CA, then you will need to recharge ur key fob by putting it in the slot .Those without CA have rechargeable batteries in their key fobs.

Hope this made sense.
Thanks for the info

Its just weird how it was working fine and then nothing. I replaced the battery and still nothing. If I put it in the key slot it starts the car just fine but does not work the trunk andf the doors.

Looks like to the dealer I must go
