Pronouncing "Dial Name" entries properly

After I say "Dial Name" and I try to say one of my friend's names, it works HORRIBLY, absolutely horribly. Never picks the right person, even for simple names. I wonder if it's because every entry has an (M) appended to it (for mobile, which seems to happen automatically when importing from my phone). Maybe I need to say "Emmmm" after the name? I shall try today.

Any advice on that?

BTW, other voice commands are 100% successful (and in fact I highly recommend using them instead of the fantastically slow iDrive interface).

Thanks!

In my previous non-iDrive E90, you could set your own onboard phonebook. With iDrive you can't, and I've noticed too that it is tricky. I am thinking of changing all my phone entries to names that are more phonetically friendly.

Just a thought, but on my Motorola Q it has name recognition; however, I find that it works best when I have the first and last name entered in my phone book because it's harder for the phone to screw that up.

For example, when I want to call a person I would say, "Call Bob Johnson" and my phone would immediately recognize the name. On the other hand, if I say, "Call Bob" that could sound a lot like "mom, Rob, John, etc."

Just an idea.

I find that I need to say in a loud voice "call first name last name home.". It seems to work fairly well but I do need to say the entire thing like I'm talking to someone with a bad phone connection. Loud and slow.

You don't need to say "M" - just say the name. If you have multiple entries under the same name, one for Mobile, one for Home etc., then you'll have to specify. I've never done that, but judging from the post above I guess you can append "home" at the end and it figures it out...
