Urgent Help!!! 1M with 18" winter tire with VMR VB3

Hi,

I just started to change my 1M with winter tire with 18" VMR VB3.

After I put on the front, the brake is really really close to the wheel.

Is that ok? should I be worry about it?

I think I know why you guys suggest the spacer.

My problem is the gap between the brake and the inside of the wheel is so so little.

between the caliper and the edge of the inner rim

Technically if it spins you should be ok. The spacer is going to push the wheel out and give you more clearance in the barrel of the rim.

A spacer will make no difference, the clearance is reduced because the wheel radius is reduced when you went down to an 18" rim, my winters are very close too, I'm running 18 x 9.5 VMR 710's. My clearance from brake to wheel is the same as yours, I put the wheels on today and have no issues.

Precisely. He's not worried about the calipers hitting the spokes (this is what spacers prevent), he is worried about the tips of the caliper hitting the inner circumference of the wheel (barrels).

If you installed the wheels all the way, tightened the lugs, and spun them by hand without clearance issues, you should be good to go.

Is everyone running 18's having this issue on the caliper being so close to the inside barrel or is this limited to VMR's?

When you -1" on rim size your calipers will be very close, you are basically moving the wheel 1/2" closer to the caliper, nothing to worry about with a decent quality wheel. If you buy really cheap wheels you could risk brake/wheel contact if the wheels get out of round.
