335i Extended Warranty and Maintenence

Hi All,

I became a proud owner of a used 2009 non-certified 335i with 25000 miles and manufacturers warranty till 2013. The car is in great condition and I am very happy with it. So the dealership offered us extended warranty and maintenence for this car for aboutr USD 7000 to extend it to 80,000 miles.

They also said that they only offer these rates now and if I tried to buy it later, it will be around 1000 more.

Can you offer any insights to help make a decision on this one. I have been told that the maintenence on these could be expensive, but I would prefer not to spend the money right now.

Ouch! They offered me the extended maintanence plan for an additional 2 years or 100K miles for $2100 and I know a few on this board bought the plan for much less. That leaves the extended warranty plan for ~$5000. I think this is wayyy to much. Keep in mind that the extended warranty doesn't have the same coverage as the original 4year/50K miles.

I wouldn't get it

Is it really $7,000 or is that a typo? If it is, wow. RIP OFF. I would call around and get the cheapest quote you can from a dealer if that is what you want.

Also, most people on this board will not recommend getting the extended maintenance. More than likely, you will not get enough maintenance to cover the $2k+. The extended warranty shouldn't be $5k. I have seen it around for about $3000 to 3500.

$7000 is a joke and the guy is trying to milk you for all you are worth.

$2000-3500 max should be what you pay for that.

I don't fault the dealership. In the internet age, it is the consumers own fault if they don't do their own researching. The stigma of a salesman is well known, to go into an agreement without research is the consumers fault.

Hell, if the salesman can sell the plan for 10k more power to him. I put it solely on the end of the buyer to call B.S.

No kidding, So the breakdown is $4000 for 85K warranty from EasyCare and $3000 for 100K maintenence from BMW, both run for 3 years from the date of purchase.

Needless to say, after hearing the comments, I am thinking otherwise. Thanks for your help.

That's more than a little odd as the Extended Maintenance and Warranty (2 years/up to 100,000 miles) both normally do not start until the expiration of the OEM warranty. Since yours is already warranted for 2 years and 25k more miles, this apparent overlap only adds to the confusion (and ripoff) - save your money!

Maintenence warranty is a complete waste of $. You get 2-3 oil changes, new filters, fluids, brake pads, wipers, and a few other minor items and when totaled up comes out to ~$1200. How a dealership can charge you $3,000 for that boggles my mind. I would consider the extended powertrain warranty though, try to talk them down to about $3000.

yeah... they wanted me to renewed on my 07 335i for like 3k... i was thinking... if my brakes do fail and I need new wipers and oil changes, it won't add up to 3k....

NOT WORTH IT.

Yeah, you had someone or a few someones on here posting links to some dealer in CA, where ALL the extended BMW warranties were being sold for over list.

As unpleasant as it is, everyone who is interested should do themselves a favor, and go to 3 dealerships and get quotes. They should print out a grid and show you what the options are, if they don't, they're smoke and mirrors. Then, discount off of list. How you know it's list is, hmmmmm.....all 3 dealers are showing the same price. Anybody who is different is marking up.

On the surface, that sounds very expensive and as people are saying, the extended warranty doesn't cover everything. One thing to note though, during my last visit to my dealership, I did read a brochure about the extended warranty and I could of sworn that it talked about different levels of coverage. I believe that it mentioned a gold and top of the line extended warranty that basically is an extension of the original bumper to bumper warranty. Now if that is the case, it might be worth looking into but I would def talk that cost down because $7k is a lot. I do have an extended warranty but it's the "normal" extended warranty that I think almost everybody is referring to and the warranty has already paid for itself and then some. My most recent repair included 3 injectors and the dme. You can do a search for my name and you should be able to find a post about my recent repair.
