Why should i not get an M5

So i want a new car. I really want the 2008 M5

I have read that the manual 6 speed cars you cant turn the traction control off on the 2006 and 2007 models

is this true for all M5's or just some years

any other reasons not to upgrade to the m5 from the 335i

You can get the 08 for 35-40k

So what's the story on the traction control issue. What years can you not turn it off

You shouldn't get one because a month ago you created a thread stating

I plan to get a FMIC and JB4 next week
and installed JB4 with a meth kit roughly two weeks ago.

If you're going to get one, at least wait until the start of the year for the prices to drop a little bit.

Yeah, ask my friend who got a non-cpo 550i same year. Everyone is so fixated on the selling price, as if the seller has wool pulled over his eyes (I just got a 90k car for 35k, yippee!).

Go to an M5 forum and I'm sure you can find out everything there is to know about it.

Are you going to part out after?

All the 6 speeds are the same. There is a factory software upgrade that allows the early ones to be able to turn the tc off. The later ones- 09 and up I believe, came that way from the factory. If my memory serves me correctly.

The mileage is tough, sometimes the oil cooler leaks and get ready to buy some coils when it's time for plugs. They like to break also. Oil changes are expensive, but so is the rest of the maint. Other than that they are good cars. Lol. Smgs are faster...

Do it, if oil changes are so expensive then jack that thing up and change the oil yourself and just get some Mobil 1 oil. hahaha

The E60 M5 (and M6 cousin) are expensive to own and maintain - in addition to the poor mileage, they literally "eat" tires, as they're pretty heavy (several hundred pounds more than the 335) and they have aggressive suspension settings. Warranty is one thing; maintenance is quite another, and as a couple of co-workers who own them have told me, it's definitely not for the faint of wallet. Even with extended maintenance from BMW, their schedule is sparse. It's a great car, but probably better suited to weekend use than daily driving.

Unfortunately the 6MT addition to the E60 M5 and its M6 cousin were sort of an afterthought due to BMW capitulating to demand, and even then it was only offered in the US. I've read that one of the results of this is that the clutch on the 6MT is way too small for a car of that weight and power and therefore the experience isn't the best. On the other hand, SMG seems to be rife with problems both in terms of daily livability and repair issues. But neither set of issues seems to stop owners from having a blast anyway with that S85....
