Consignment dealer

Has anyone had any luck or just experience with selling your BMW with a consignment dealer?

Sunnyvale motors is saying they will put all the costs of selling it on their Backs. Up price it 2,000 and if it doesn\'t sell in 90 days give me my asking price.

Anyone have any personal experience to share? My first foray into this dimension.

What is their cut? Only the price markup of $2000? there has to be more to this.

Yes it does. Do they have a website/more info?

Around here it is $200 listing fee and 5% or $750 (whichever is more). For a BMW, unless it is a rare model, why not just list it in some forums and on Autotrader? If your car was a classic or convertible (in the snow areas), the consignment dealer would have the advantage of both inside storage and bigger market reach all year.

If you want to sell your car, don't let some place like that do it for you unless you know what you're doing. Just do what the above says...put it online. And draw on your back window, for sale.

Local indy Porsche shop sold my old Porsche this way. The cost was $500. (The minimum, they do a % of the sales price). Very painless process.

I've known these guys for years, and I'd trust them -- well, maybe not with my daughter -- but certainly with any of my cars.

If they sold BMWs this way, I'd ask them to sell mine when the time comes.

Because I'm trying to sell it for 26800 which is exactly what I owe. It's been on autotrader, Craigslist, and cars.com. I haven't received a single phone call about it. It's a little over priced for private party sale. Even though it's still u ser original bumper to bumper with maint. And then has CPO after. Plus I have a loan through BMWFS still. Which makes it that much more of a pain. I'm thinking more and more that this consignment is the way to go. But that being said, I get what you're saying.

Not to be ignorant but I think your price has a lot to do with why you have had no action on this. Even in Canada an 08 328i with 48,000kms is selling under 20k.

Check it out....

None taken. That car isn't CPO. And I'm only 3,000 over kbb for a car with no warranty. My car has CPO warranty. I can only go as low as 25,000 and around here that's 2,000 cheaper than any of the 328i s listed with warranties. At 25,000 I'm losing 1,000$ off what I owe.

Got a ton of calls for that same kind of thing when selling my truck. Turned out that most were scams.

At the end of the day, your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Sort of like selling your house - these days, it's rare to get out even. Bite the bullet and throw a couple grand at it and get rid of it.

I don't get it. At 25,500 im 600$ below edmunds TMV on the vehicle appraisal. That doesn't even take into account that it has the warranty. How is this 25,500$ way over priced?

Edmunds is a more accurate assessment than KBB. Sounds like you got a killer deal though! Congrats! And again. I appreciate your input. No offense taken, I welcome all commentary.
