Replaced Turbos, now hearing a noise.
Hey Guys,
About a month ago I had both of my Turbos replaced on my 2008 335i e92 the wastegates were rattling so luckly it was still under warranty and were replaced. Since then I am now out of warranty. Yesterday after filling up I stepped on the pedal and shifted around 4500rpm then popped it into 2nd and kept going. After slowing down I could hear a hissing noise as I stepped on the gas pedal. I have an underground parking spot and could really hear this hissing sound when giving it gas. Not sure if it's something I had not noticed before or have I popped a vacuum line or something? Kind of sounds like a blow off valve which I do not have. Also wondering if the new turbos have some sort of warranty? Any insight would be awesome. |

Possibly a boost or vacuum leak? You would notice a drop in power though, same with wastegate leak. I would think something drastic enough to be a noticeable loss in power would flip a code somewhere, but not sure.

Yea that's what I'm guessing. Maybe the new vacuum line wasn't installed properly and came loose or something. These are brand new turbos.

Glad you figured it out. I had a similar issue with a (crappy) coupling that burst under boost. After that I used nothing but couplers from www.turbohoses.com and t-clamps.

No problem at all. Yea I could hear them all the time everytime a took my foot of the gas. It kept getting worse and worse, so I brought it in with 4 days left on my warranty. Funny thing was I phoned about a week prior to ask about the noise and was told it was normal. So I stuck my blackberry under my car to record the sound a scoured the internet to find the same noise. Found it on youtube under "dreaded wastegate rattle".

Sorry for the late reply. Some hose or something came loose at the intercooler. |

Can wastegates start rattling again after turbos were replaced? Or was it just a flaw in the initial design?
