June 2009 join date and 368 posts, you should know how to use the feature. As far as "power" mods go, if that's really what you're after, you will most likely be disappointed with the money spent/HP gained ratio since it's a 328i and 335i. I'm not saying the 328i is a bad car, nor am I trying to start a 328i vs 335i war. It's just that even 328i owners have admitted to not being satisfied even when they put every "power" mod on possible.

Been there, done that, doing the lousy lease return in August. Stick to cosmetic mods, the 15 or so HP you'll get isn't worth the hundreds you'll put into it trying. Sorry, it's the truth. Royal is spot on.

Oh, you mean when they steal from you by replacing the HPFP for free under an extended warranty up to 10 years/120k miles?

It doesn't matter what model you purchase, if a dealership wants to become a stealership with you, they will.

The only mod would be sell it & buy a 335.

You think fuel pumps don't go on 328's? A friend of mine had his replaced twice within 2 years- bone stock and drives like grammy. There are many 335 owners out there who have had zero issues, and for stuff that goes wrong there is a pretty significant warranty. Of course you only hear the horror stories, this is a BMW board where people come to get help for problems. Don't let the posts scare you. Test drive both, and get what moves you. I personally would not own any E9x out of warranty. BMWs are not known for their reliability.
If you want reliability and a car you can drive into the ground, get a Honda or Toyota- it won't be an E9x.
Just trying to help.

Are people really still fooled by this "HPFP" hype...its no worse than any other problem that can happen on any car..even a 328 AND its covered for 10 yrs.

i am looking for 4 seater convertible, Honda/Toyota is not my type. i already have 4 seater sedan camry which i use for errands in town for grocery/laundry etc. i am looking to buy something in convertibles/4 seater. i used to have 2003 z4, which i sold after i got married. i love convertibles and these 328 and 335s have nice hard tops. but i am scared of these HPFP issues. Please help. should i buy cpo/used or brand new new , what year?

The HPFP is warrantied up to 10 years and 120k miles. If you're going to buy used, buy 09+ and CPO. If you're going to buy new, well, buy the newest possible.

Keep in mind that the N54 twin turbo ends with the 10' 335i. . The 11/12' 335i has the N55 single turbo. The N54 is also in the 11'/12' 335is.

No, I didn't say that at all ? I was just telling you which years and models have the N54 in case you decided to go with the 335i and wanted twin turbos.

My point was that if your HPFP needs replacing, they'll replace it all the way up to 10 years and 120k miles.

Dude get a new or CPOed 328 E93, otherwise you'll be having panic attacks wondering when your fully covered HPFP well beyond the time you'll actually be driving a 335 is going to blow.

We said it several times, the HPFP is covered 10 years /120k miles. Unless you are just paranoid about getting stranded (you could still drive the car, just not nearly as fast) with a possible HPFP issue, or plan on keeping your car more than the warranty allows, you would be fine.

Is money a factor? You seem to be set on a 328, which is fine. Search the non-turbo board to see what others have done to get what little extra power you can out of it. The N52 is pretty much tuned for the max amount of power it will [safely] allow for, so don't set your expectations too high.

Active Autowerke tune, BMW performance exhaust, and a drop in euro filter intake/ BMW performance intake, will give you drips and drabs of performance. Also bear in mind, the hard top vert will be significantly heavier, and you'll have almost no trunk space so consider that as well.

Any year will be fine, obviously newer will have the life cycle impulse refreshes on the body and lights.

You are worried about reliability, yet you are talking about getting extra power out of the engine with unsupported third party mods that make the ECU and engine perform out of intended factory spec. That could put you in an even worse predicament, and one the dealer won't even touch. Think about it as you ponder your worries over a FACTORY COVERED HPFP.

Anything after 2009 should be fine. The same HPFP remains in all the years of the 335, and for the foreseeable future, for better or worse. That is all we have, best of luck in whatever you choose.

Seriously man? I've never had a HPFP go out, it's been replaced under the recall, and I'm one of the most modded cars on this forum. Your 328, any car for that matter, will eventually have issues. Don't think you can own a car for it's lifespan and never replace anything, then you are kidding yourself. Just wait till your 328's steering wheel angle sensor (SZL = $1200) or trannsmission plan/gasket ($700) go out....and they will. The reason you hear about HPFP's on here because we are enthusiasts, your average BMW owner is not going on forums complaining.

If you are too worried of the cost of owning one of these cars, maybe it's not for you. If you are too paranoid....then again, it's not for you.

You want power mods on your 328 convert? Seriously, search is your friend. Oh, as for a 4 seat convert, I hope your children are very young or very small, because a full grown person will have trouble sitting in the back. Worry about suspension and cosmetics, not power mods. Coilovers, light rims, better tires, and a LSD will make all the world for a car who can't even put down 230hp to the wheels.

Syndicategt, So you are saying that 328 or 335 convert: is not for 4 adults because 2 backseats does not have enough leg room for adults? so what is point of buying 4 seater convertible which can not accomodate 4 people? i would rather buy E85/E86 Convert.

Lol then why are you asking all these questions. You've answered
Every question yourself. Seems like you haven't made up your mind dude. Convertibles aren't meant to have 4 grown adults, seats are there for looks IMO
