Valet Key Usage

I was wondering how often you guys use your 'valet' key and remove it form your key fob?

I use it a few times a week, mainly when I forget something in my apartment and nee to go back up or pick up the mail. I will take out the valet key with my key ring and leave the key fob in the car (this really only applies to cars without CA)

Has anyone had an issue with the tab breaking off from the top of the key fob? By tab I mean the piece that locks the valet key into place. I am careful with it, but curious if anyone has broken it from over use?

It's not exactly a valet key because you couldn't drive the car with just that piece. The manual calls it the "integrated key." (For the record in case anyone is searching on "valet key" and finds this thread )

Oh my god I'm not the only one that noticed the yellow grease and funky smell! Haha. I just thought I had some dirty keys. I hate it because I very often leave the car running while I go in/out of my house and when I use the key to lock the door it dirties the keyhole. Lol

I only use the metal key when I leave my engine running when I go to get something really quick....like in front of a gas station or CVS or something.

There is no "valet" key. You take the metal key out of the fob and keep it with you. Toggle the valet switch in the glove compartment and lock it with the metal key. Give the fob to the attendant.

i believe it gets on the key when you insert it into any of the car's keyholes. i've gone through a couple clean/use key cycles. it's hard to get the smell completely out. i'm guessing its the lubricant bmw uses to cut the key holes out or something

If I need to leave my car running but wanna lock it, I take all the keys and press lock.

Almost daily I leave all my keys in the car when I am out of the house. I only like having the fob alone in my pocket. That plus 3 extra keys and gym pass is way too much for my pockets. I won't even put a wallet or phone in my pocket.
