Product Description

Product Description
The 1 Series M has, unlike most things, lived up to the hype. BMW pieced together parts from the 3 Series and 1 Series to make a Frankenstein BMW that we love however there is still plenty of room for improvement. The 3L twin-turbo N54 power plant is one that we know well and have been tuning since 2007. BMW decided to take a page from our playbook and use software to increase the power of the N54 in the stock car. It is because of this we skipped Stage 1 and started with our proven N54 Stage 2 Performance Software. The results of Dinan’s tuning is impressive, with the added boost and related recalibration producing maximum output of 378 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 415 lb-ft torque at 4300 rpm.

Dinan Stage 2 Performance Engine Software safely increases turbo-boost pressure, along with properly retuned fuel mixtures, ignition timing and full map rescaling. Dinan’s software also removes the top speed governor so the BMW will be capable of achieving its natural top speed. Producing substantial increases in power output while maintaining the civility and reliability expected of a Dinan performance product. In an effort to more effectively control oil and water temperatures, the Dinan software actually increases water pump speeds as boost pressure increases. And as always, Dinan matches the new car warranty coverage for up to 4 years or 50,000 miles, including the possibility of consequential damages. No one offers better performance or backs it up with such comprehensive warranty coverage.

Increased boost pressure exceeds the turbochargers’ design limitations at higher rpm, potentially shortening their lifespan. Dinan addresses this issue by tapering the boost gradually at higher engine speeds. This approach also addresses the fact that with increased boost at higher rpm the turbocharger temperatures would exceed the intercooler’s ability to cool the intake charge, resulting in a loss of power and compromising the long-term durability of the engine. The tapered boost along with the required oil cooler keeps temperatures within the design limitations so as to optimize output and ensure engine reliability with the added boost pressure.

When BMW creates a software update so do we. Dinan will make software available at no charge to keep your car running as well as it possibly can.

Dinan software is not available for purchase on-line as it must be downloaded by Dinan or an Authorized Dinan Dealer using specialized equipment. Contact your local Dinan Authorized Dealer directly for the purchase and installation of Dinan software. This software can be downloaded in about an hour at most Dinan Dealers. If a conveniently located dealer is not available or if your car is not supported by your dealers equipment the DME can be shipped to Dinan for reprograming.

Thanks. I was scratching my head about what happened to Stage 1 before I read this on the Dinan site:

"BMW decided to take a page from our playbook and use software to increase the power of the N54 in the stock car. It is because of this we skipped Stage 1 and started with our proven N54 Stage 2 Performance Software."

I'm not very familiar with Dinan or BMW specific tuning. Do they match extended warranties as well as the standard 4/50k?

Yes, they match the 4yr/50k factory warranty. It's the safest tune imo.

Sorry - not extended warranties.

Thanks. But I was trying to find out if they match the extended (6/100k) warranties.

No! Only the original factory warranty.

So it doesn't require a dp or fmic? I'm confused. Aren't the high intake temps the main concern with more boost?..

they provide their own warranty... it has nothing to do with BMW's warranty.

I always thought "stage 2" implies installing additional hardware, not just software

http://www.dinancars.com/shop/D900-3...-Series-M.aspx

Also, 378 hp 415 tq at the wheel?

REMEMBER Dinan's numbers are at the crank not at the WHEELS like every other tuner publishes. This is a big difference. Dinan 378 HP is not close to other tuners 378 HP.

Anything above a stage 1 requires additional hardware, but it isn't included in the software upgrade.

Stage 1 was for a few 135i's and 335i's that didn't have oil coolers. Stage 2 is for cars with factory oil coolers. Stage 3 is for cars with expensive Dinan intercoolers and oil coolers.

Dinan measures hp and torque at the flywheel on 93 octane with a huge fan blowing.

In the 3rd paragraph it states:

"The tapered boost along with the required oil cooler keeps temperatures within the design limitations so as to optimize output and ensure engine reliability with the added boost pressure."

So you need an upgraded oil cooler?

378hp and 415ft-lbs at the crank? Not a very good improvement over the 331rwhp and 362rwtq of a stock 1M

That's exactly the same text copied and pasted from Dinan's description of the Stage 2 tune that I have in my 135i. Your factory oil cooler is "the required oil cooler".

Question, what about the M button? Does this software remove the dual tune?

So we agree this is a fairly weak tune?

People have been running GIAC & ESS for a while now: half the cost, better numbers, no problems (that I've heard of).

I'm not sure that it's worth the really high price tag. I was expecting a little more HP from a stage 2. Price per HP, I'm not sure it's such a great deal.
