Window stuck down in morning
For the past four mornings I have rolled all my windows down to remove the moisture so I could see, and the back driver side window gets stuck down.
I took it to the dealer and it worked fine for them (after it sat for a few hours), I think after the moisture drys it is fine. Anyone have this happen before? |

I was looking at the DYI section but couldn't find how to open the door trim. Can someone guide me to it. Is it just pull-out or does it have any screws and stuff?

I just posted the following solution in another thread but because the problem is so common I'm reposting it here. Hope it helps :
Try to re-initialize the faulty window. The process is easy. I found numerous web pages that explain it and my Bentley manual covers it. But, add one additional step to the initializing process to insure success. When raising the window apply a little downward force with your hand to trick the computer into recording a higher current draw on the window motor. After initialization is complete the computer will then compare window operation with this new high value. Stuck window problem will be gone. Don't apply too much pressure because you want the antitrap feature to still work safely. Also take your fingers out before the top. I'm not assuming any responsility for any damage or injuries that may occur. Use at own risk. |

Also to be more specific the extra force you apply with your hand should only be enough to positively counter the resistance the window motor has to overcome from the fully lowered position. If you initialize the window with too high a current level the anti trap won't be sensitive enough to protect small fingers from getting injured or the window from getting damaged when obstructed.

My rear passenger window intermittently fails to go up, especially when it's cold outside. I've never gotten completely stuck without being able to raise it after a few minutes, but it makes me nervous enough that I never put it down all the way - I leave at least an inch so I can help pull it up if need be.

I wanted to confirm that I have the same issue. A few weeks back the window was rolled half way down and didn't want to come up. When I click the drivers side rear window button I hear a clicking noise but nothing else.
How can I be sure it's the regulator and not a bad motor? If the motor was still good wouldn't I hear the motor try to work and not just the clicking of the switch? Also I am able to raise the window by using the palms of my hands, one of my buddies told me it's the regulator since the window moves freely up and down. This morning I found the window completely down and now cannot get it up. Think it's the regulator issue? Also re-initializing the window can this be done with 1 person or two people with one guy flipping the switch at the drivers side door? Also where should I apply pressure? Only the front 1/4 part of the window is visible to where I can push down on it, the rest is deep inside the door. HELP! |

If you can move the window freely it is the regulator. $90 at Tomkinsonbmwparts.com
Or if you are a diy guy, order a new regulator clip (tge clip is the culprit) online for about $15. Google e90 window regulator repair kit. And check out the DIY on YouTube. My first time took about an hour. Good luck |

Ok so I tried lowering the window and heard some nice "crunching" noises...I'm guessing that was the loose cable of the regulator. So I just used some needle nose pliers to raise the window temporarily until my new regulator comes in. BTW at first I was only able to raise the window half way but I seemed to "unstuck" it or maybe broke it off something and was able to raise it all the way. Hope I didn't break anything else

You can temporarily fix until your new regulator comes in. I used a zip tie through the spring on end of cable and through the clip. You will need to disassemble the regulator to respool the cable. And I wouldn't use the window. But this will definitely keep your window up. Mine kept working its way down. Drove me nuts. Also makes it that much easier to replace later.

Yep, I've recently suffered the same issue. Unfortunately it's both rears. /sigh I'm looking at new ones now as there's no freegin way I can tolerate windows stuck in the down position at any time. As far as the cold being a possible culprit, I'm not so sure. This has been happening fo well over a month.
