Check when dark outside. The light control logic is smart enough to use an adjacent bulb when other bulbs fail. Check angel eyes, tail lights, brake lights, reverse lights, fogs, etc. Make sure the left and right sides look the same. Also many LED angel eye replacements can set occasional faults. Also there is a TSB for faulty rear tail light bulb carriers on coupes and convertibles. The replacements are only $16.50 from GetBMWparts.com. Faulty carrier can cause bulb faults even though they may still light up or the bulbs may not light up even when replaced with new bulbs due to faulty contacts.

Oh and make sure you use German-made Osram bulbs. Many store-bought bulbs don't have the exact same conductivity and can throw faulty bulb codes even if they're good. This is very common on E39 and E46s where people use cheap brass base bulbs instead of Osram nickel base bulbs.

It can also sense when bulbs are about to fail. Few weeks ago, my dash kept telling me that the rear bulb failed.. but was actually still working. Few days later the bulb failed.
You can use the stalk to find out which particular bulb is giving error. Go to Check Control -> Highlight the error -> hold the stock button for a few seconds, then it will give you a CC-ID#. Google the CC-ID# to find which bulb it is. |

I had a similar issue. Turned out it was a park light that's in the light on the trunk lid. I'd flip up the trunk, the filament would touch, bulb worked. Drive it a bit, bump failed, got a error light.
