Baby car seats in a 335i coupe?
I tried searching, but searching seems like it's down right now. Anyway, looking to purchase a 335i relatively soon. Does a baby car seat fit in a 335i coupe, or would I need to go sedan? I asked the dealer, but they had no idea.

Just look up "carseat" and you will find your answer. Most people said it is fine. I'm in the same boat and I think Im going to keep it for a while until I can afford a 2011 535xi.

No kidding??? And this is a rearward-facing car seat, right? That's good to know because I really have my heart set on a coupe and was worried that I would have to go the sedan route.

Not 100% sure it was rearward, may have jumped the gun on that. I would still think it would fit. Know her front facing one fits for sure. She has had it for a few years and its her only car so I think it did. Didnt know her then though. Ill see if I can find out.

It should fit fine...we use one for my grandson in my E92. When it's front-facing, you may want to mount it on the passenger side and scoot the front passenger seat forward a little.

rear-facing is going to be very very tight. forward-facing is fine. I would suggest borrowing a rear-facing seat and taking a trip to the dealer for a test fit.

Cool. Thanks! Yeah, me and the missus are just planning ahead so I wanted to check on this. Good thing she likes scooting her seat forward anyway
Hmmm.. Not a bad idea. Am planning on swinging by the dealership this weekend, so I might give that a shot. |

If you have the car seat already, then I suggest you take it to the dealer & test fit both coupe & sedan. Then you decide for yourself which one is convenient for you. I had a coupe before (not BMW), I love the car but as the baby gets bigger & heavier...the more I hate going in & out of the car carrying the infant seat. Coupe is a good looking car but not a family car.

I actually have a car seat in my E92 so I can tell you my experience. I searched the forums ravenously beforehand and didn't find much on rear facing car seats in an E92, so here goes.
When my son was 3 months, he started day care because my wife worked and due to her work hours, I was tasked with getting him safely to and from day care. So from 3 months to about 6 months I used a rear facing infant seat that could detach from a base. So my wife had a base, I had a base and we had one 'seat' which could detach and be used as a carrier. The base was nice because you could angle it so that the seat would have the proper 45-60 degree recline, even with the E92's deep back seats. When he hit 22 pounds or so, I got a Recaro Pro-Ride convertible safety seat. A black one, to match my black car. The 'cooling' fabric worked great and the seat never got warm to the touch, even after sitting in the Texas sun. I was able to install this seat rear facing with some effort, and was able to pull the connections so the seat was very snug in the back seat. This seat also had a reclining feature to maintain the proper back angle when installed rear facing. I have a car seat protector to protect my seat and it seems to do the trick. Now here is the rub with the rear facing seat, you actually have to get into the back seat of the car to secure you child in the seat. I did this, until he was 12 months old, and it sucked. But at 12 months I put the seat forward facing even though the recommended age is 24 months. He is still in the car seat and it works great. I just run the front passenger seat all the way forward to get the little on in and out. When I had the seat installed rear facing I had it on the passenger side, I still do. With the seat installed rear facing, the front passenger seat is still usable too. I hope this helps. I find the outlined procedure well worth the effort to be able to drive the coupe. I once had a mom at the daycare, who doesn't really mind her own business, ask me why I went through all that trouble to put my son in and out of a car seat. I told her I did it so I didnt' have to drive a fucking mini-van, as she got into hers. |

I had a rear facing infant seat in an E46 Coupe
Quote:
Back to the car - I fit an infant seat fit my '01 330Ci, since the E92 is a little bigger I'm guessing it'll fit too. Best bet is to take the seat you plan to use to the dealer. (I’m talking about the infant seat which the base is in the car and the seat snaps in.) Something to consider – if you’re going to need to put your child in the car frequently, you might want to consider a sedan. I didn’t want to get rid of my coupe but because a freak accident, I’m in an E90 sedan now and it’s a lot easier – especially once your child out grows the infant seat. I can’t imagine getting my kids in a rear facing fixed car seat in a coupe – I can barely get my son into his seat with the sedan. Just a thought – good luck! |

Thinks get much easier once they outgrow the rear-facing seat. The coupe is low enough so they can climb in and onto the carseat on their own (2 and a half - 3), then all you have to do is go half-way in, one foot in, to just buckle them up.

Hmmmm. I hadn't thought about when they outgrow the infant seat but still need to be in a rearward-facing seat. Good to know though. Thanks for the tip. |
