What is this warning symbol?

This light was flashing on the dashboard for the whole drive home tonight - freaked me out. It stopped right after I turned into my driveway.

Come to think of it, as I was going through intersections, some cars were honking at me... Could they have been able to see what was wrong with my car?

My manual is in my glove compartment but I'm short and it's too much effort to reach all the way over there to get it out, so I hope someone here can tell me what this is. I hear you can download the manual from bmwusa.com as well, but finding your VIN, registering, etc... what a PITA.
