Do I need a new TPMS?

So I had a tire shred down to the cords, didnt know it was until I had pulled the tire off, but anyway, I had the TPMS light go off on me at a drive thru, pulled off in a parking lot to check the tire, it was just hissing air. So I got my conti comfort kit out and used it on the tire. Got the car home (was only a mile or so away) and then my tire pressure gauge couldnt get ANY sort of reading out of it.

So my question is, does the TPMS go on the valve stem? I believe my stem is 'sealed' up now. Do I need a new stem only or do I need the entire piece? Need to know so I can get a new TPMS before the tires arrive around mid week. Thanks.

The Conti kit warns against using the kit with TPMS - but - you could try a rebuild kit and some elbow grease to clean up the sensor.

If you used any kind of liquid tire sealant then the sensor is done, the breather tube on the sensor will become fouled and no longer work correctly.

Sounds like you may need a new sensor. There are rebuild kits that are available for TPMS however there's no guarantee it'll make the sensor work.

The sensor was the only thing that saved me from the ruining my rim, otherwise I wouldnt have known and may have drove home on a complete flat tire. Im very glad that I have the TPMS sensor, it did its job. Next time though if I am just so close, Ill get a ride home to get my jack and snow tire/spare and put it on there. Could have been alot worse for me though.

Having the camber/toe fixed so that way the insides dont wear so damn fast. Its a good idea I think.

To update for anyone else...........yup, the sensor AND the valve stem were shot. So, now the question is....do I get a donut and tote it around with me....and how do I get it in the car since I have a large sub/box in the back.

I believe that "Slime" sells a kit that is advertised as being TPMS friendly.
