Carbon deposits on exhaust

What is the best way to clean carbon deposits off factory exhaust tips, while keeping the stainless steel shine?

Make sure the exhaust is cool to the touch. You can wipe it down with a quick detailer and a MF towel, or just wash it when you wash your car. I use Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish a little goes a long way. Any metal polish will work, just skip the ones made for chrome though.

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

I was once told to use oven cleaner on the chrome on my harley and it actually worked really really well. In fact, it works best when the exhaust is hot. Just some info.

I have the same issue, i bought some fancy metal polisher, i used a strong wheel cleaner, i rubbed it as hard as i could but no banana.
On my f10 550i, i have chrome square style exhaust and they haven't been cleaned for a long time now.
i would really like to clean it, better yet, paint the exhaust in black chrome
Anyone did that? any ideas? can exhaust tips be taken out?
Thank you

Try Nevr Dull. You can find it at Auto Zone, Wal Mart, just about anywhere. Cheap, and very effective.

Think about it logically.

Carbon deposits and dirt are bound tight to the metal finish.

You need abrasion/mechanical work to remove those deposits as no real cleaner is going to get at them off the bat but can help with an abrasive brush or pad. A polish would be abrasive and work well, as would a wool pad.

Once you get some abrasion, then you could use a cleaner to loosen up some of the deposits and decrease the damage yo do to your metal finish.

So make it two step.

Too much thought, try the Nevr Dull and keep it simple.
