2012 3-series being sold already in Dubai..?

Today my uncle calls me up to tell me he ordered a brand new 320i 2012 model and it should take a week max for delivery time. Even though I'm not into the 3-series much I knew about the F30 and told him that's impossible unless he's buying the 2011 model. Then he tells me that he's certain that it's the 2012 model as the BMW official dealership were also offering new 2011 models for cheaper base prices. I went online and checked a couple of local websites and there are people here in Dubai offering brand new 2012 316i's!

http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified...=0&price__lte=

http://uae.motors.souq.com/BMW-316i-...26s_new_old%3D

Funny thing is the second link links me to a webstore of the official BMW dealership here so I'm having my doubts. Am I mistaken here or what?

That's correct. The f30 will be a 2013.

That's incorrect. As the US production shows (chart see HERE), the F30 will begin as a 2012 Model Year, at least in the US.

There is no E90 2012 model year, at least for the US. US E90 production ends this month, for good.

That's kind of weird though... Would BMW actually sell discontinued E90's as new models? The fact that my uncle's sister owns a 2011 325i will come to him as a shock as I doubt there will be be any noticeable differences once he sees the two side by side. You'd think they'd wait for the F30 as beemers and benzs sell like hotcakes here so the fanbase is definitely there.

Whether it's called 2012 or 2011, if he's getting it now it's an e90 and will be virtually identical (if not, in fact, completely identical) to the 2011 that they're discounting.

The first link says the 316 gets "200-300" hp. The second link is for a used "2012".

Don't believe everything you read.

Even though I agree with you Penso, the fact that it's going to take him a week to get the "2012" model seems pretty off. That second link might say used (even though for a couple of hundred kilos) but like I said, AGMC is the official BMW dealership here.

The point is I'm pretty sure there is no 2012 model year for 3-series sedans. Check the VIN. It'll have a B in the 10th position.

But even if for some reason Dubai is getting 2012 model year 3ers (C in 10th position in the VIN), they're still not F30s, so the fact that someone can buy one is not very interesting--they're still e90s.

I used to work in nearby Abu Dhabi and I can tell you such cars can reach these desert shores real quick!
I actually saw an x6 on the streets of Abu Dhabi within days after the official reveal in EU and months ahead of US or UK launch. I was like ????
In fact, from memory, most model appear pretty fast in this region.
So I do believe his uncle is is talking about F30.

Btw. It's already October 2011 and most cars produced by now are likely to be tagged as 2012 model. There won't be a 2012 e90.

F30s don't even start production until November.

November for the US perhaps.
Next week we shall see the actual production cars revealed in Munich ( don't think it will be concept model )

like I've said about x6 which wasn't launched elsewhere at the time. I'm not ruling out the possibility

Don't get your hopes up. Next week is the "reveal" but the launch isn't until March. They've built a few for the photo shoots and for testing but I gather those will be crushed and recycled as they're just prototypes.
