335 to WRX or something else? Help
I like the utility if the WRX and I like the way it looks. It's almost as fast as our cars and isn't very expensive.
I have been a 335 devotee who has spent many hours and dollars on mods and tracking but since I have a track-only M3 I feel the need for a car that does other things. I would miss the quality of the 335 interior and that beautiful torque curve - or lack of one . Just not sure if I should sell my 335 and buy the WRX. Thoughts? i love the looks of the WRX, especially the 5-door hatch. but i wouldnt trade my 335 for anything, except maybe an M3. but this is really up to you dude. all we can offer here are opinions. but, it sounds like you just want something different. i mean, what is the WRX gonna do for you that the 335i cant?

With all the mods on your 335, looks like you're just bored and want to start over with another clean canvas. I say do it. Since you already have an M3, I think you should trade in the 335.

Looks like that doesn't it? I really just want a fun car with utility and reliability that I won't mod....well maybe a little

it's a nice downgrade in terms of fit and finish in the cabin as well as overall refined driving feel.
Want something different? Get like an X3 or an x5 (recently drove an x5M and loved it)

I'm actually going the opposite direction (have a 335i on order). The WRX is a great car. Would definitely recommend getting an 05+ if you were looking at used. They are very cheap and easy to make fast while still being reliable. If you are serious about keeping it relatively stock (which is hard to do once you start looking at parts availability and pricing), I would recommend looking at the Forester XT and the Legacy GT as well. The Forester will give you more practicality and the Legacy a bit more refinement.
I will miss mine dearly, but much like you, I am bored and its time for a change. |

If the WRX will be your daily driver, I would expect you would be disappointed with looking and feeling that interior after driving your 335 for a while. Of course the fun factor and utility is there, but if you're sitting in those hard seats, closing those tinny doors with the stiff plastic everywhere, you might regret it.
A coworker has one and we let each other drive our cars all the time. Lets just hope you have a short commute. |

If you are OK with interior quality then you should like the car....I almost bought WRX STI myself before......but i am glad I did not. I am 31 and I think I am too old for this car.....and interior...at least in 2008 models was just ridiculous. Exterior is a bit too flashy, but very nice. Also Mazda and Toyota trying to copy WRX as well which makes it less special....

I drove the new wrx sti version and although it is awd, I must say that I was pretty disappointed in the handling department. There was significant body roll and it just didn't feel as tight as the 3er. I had pretty high expectations and sadly came out disappointed.
Acceleration was decent but 335 still feels more powerful altogether. Interior also nasty and nav screen is ugly |

Make sure to get some winter or all season tires for winter. For whatever reason they equipped the WRX with summer tires. IMO they shoulda put decent all seasons on there and kept the summer tires for the STI.
Edit- Just noticed you are in North Cali, so nvm lol. Unless you guys do get winters there |

The exterior styling puts the WRX and 335i in two different categories unless one does use them for entirely different purposes.
The Mits EVO styling is more close to the 335i, but Mits seems to have given up selling cars these days. |

WRX is a great car. No comparison to a 335 though - BMW is the complete package.

Drove the WRX today. Love the drive. I would bet that it's faster around a track than our cars. So good. So predictable. I was mildly drifting all the way around a long freeway off ramp. Add a little gas for some more rotation and feather the gas for a little straightening out. Just perfect.
The deal breaker is the awful interior and gas mileage. I really wish it was just a little nicer inside. What a piece of crap. |

I am parting it out. Suspension is coming off next week and the brakes are listed in a WTT listing in the for sale area. I am considering taking out the ER competition oil coolers too.

I've thought about a WRX many times, myself. I really have trouble with the dismally cheap interior, though, especially considering what the WRXs cost. Their continued use of a 5-speed manual also baffles me. If you're serious about going that route, you might want to be patient and see how the next-gen 2013 model looks. From what I've read so far, it sounds fairly promising.

If you're going to go down to a rice rocket then go all the way and buy a used Toyota Supra, mod the hell out of it and it will still get respect on the streets. Or a Acura NSX. Why buy a WRX when any kid under 25 could get? Supra or NSX.
