Notice how a surcharge goes on your insurance from the conviction date (the day you pay the fine) and not the date you get the ticket. So if there is no conviction date then no insurance company can surcharge you.

Interesting idea. Don't think I will try it though. I need to go to court and request traffic school. For a stupid failing to stop completely before turning right.

heard it before and it DOES NOT work.

Hire a lawyer to go to court for you if you care about points.

Around here you can ask for deferred adjudication and take a defensive driving course

...around here we're SO SICK of drivers that FAIL to stop for a red light and/or
STOP sign, then turn right without yielding to oncoming (READ: has the right of
way) traffic resulting in collisions and/or near misses for everyone.

The offender is in such a "hurry" they routinely flip off and/or jam on their
brakes if their law breaking behavior upsets anyone.

The STOP sign means STOP - it doesn't mean slow down and roll through.

Here's a simple test - how would you feel if some "person" cut you off when you were driving through an intersection and they simply pulled out in front of
you - failing to properly yield?

sometimes fighting the ticket / points cost more than the small insurance surcharge.

My wife got a ticket a few years ago - was 4 points. Insurance slapped us with 3 years of surcharges until the points 'went away'. The surcharge was about $100 a year + 120 or so for the ticket.

Friend of mine got a ticket and went to court to 'buy his way' out of the points. He paid his ticket, court fees and some other 'point fees'. He wrote a check for $480.

If he hired a lawyer - who charged him $300, plus court fees and such, it would have been over 500.

I'd rather pay the ticket and the zero interest surcharges paid out over 3 years (if they even charge you the surcharge or keep it up the entire 3 years) then drop 5 bills up front.

Obviously you are very daft. . . If 'no one was around', how'd you get caught?

Driving responsibly doesn't turn off during the early morning hours.

Go speed around doing 200 mph and when you get caught, use your excuse and ask them if they got better things to do. They'd probably say they're wait for people like you.

just hired a lawyer..no point..no driving school..no court fees and it's cheaper than the ticket itself.

That's what I'm saying. Here lets me give you an examples:

Got an speeding ticket on '06 doing 85 on a 65. Ticket cost 274, court cost 65, traffic shool cost 34. My rate at that time is $25/hr; so total cost is $ 573 w/ 8 hrs of my time and a slice of pizza they offer in the traffic school.

Now, got an speeding ticket on '10 doing 88 on 65. Ticket cost $303. This time I hired a lawyer. Total cost $ 85. No point, no traffic school, no history, no court fees, no whatsoever expect had to pay $6 for parking in downtown for the court date.
Seeing your police FACE that wrote you a ticket on the court date and got dismissed my judge = PRICELESS!!!!

You decide.

I tried the over payment thing, and it did work for me. (honest).

Got caught doing 20 over in Ohio (75 in a 55) and paid 5 dollars over the ticket amount. Never got a refund check, and every time insurance looks at my record it never shows either. This was July of 2007, and I've switched insurances about every year.
