Anything wrong with riding in DS all the time?

Would riding in DS mode everyday and all the time hurt the engine/transmission/ or the overall car? I find it pretty fun to put it in DS mode and paddle shift a good amount of my time driving, well until I hit the highway or traffic (which i do living in a big city) where I would put it back to D. Just want to make sure I'm not overdoing it.

I've been told that these cars are made for it and I'm just going to go with it. Rev up that motor daily and enjoy.

I highly doubt they (BMW) would put an option on the car that would "hurt" it.

never understood why people are afraid of using their cars. i understand the idea of preserving the engine and various components, but c'mon... this isn't a car you keep for 200k miles

It's not? lol
I drive very spiritedly, redline often, but that's not as bad as tracking it. That's why you buy a sports car, that should be half the reason why most people are on this forum, because they enjoy their cars. I don't know about you, but I plan to keep it for another 10 years . Just regular maintenance. Bad idea?

My car now is a manual. The last car I had, however, I drove 100k miles almost exclusively in manual mode before I sold the car for a bmw. No problems at all.

Is it just me or does the (335xi) in DS mode results in the brakes being more sensitive and have better stopping power? Also in D mode it seems like the brakes ease on to slow the car down than DS mode whereas it has more abrupt braking?

sorry for grammar on iphone while on the toilet.

Your RPM's are higher, thus increasing engine brake in collaboration with your brakes.

Yes, DS mode enables engine braking.

Engine braking is "enabled" in any mode, DS or D - does not matter.

It is just that engine braking is stronger in lower gears, for obvious reasons. Since the whole point of DS mode is to keep the car in lower gears longer (RPM-wise), it is no wonder that engine braking in DS mode is more prominent.

YES... you might get addicted to it and then not drive in D at all.

I actually wanted an MT, but it was hard to find a good car that had what I wanted with an MT. In the end, after a discussion with the guys over at Cobb Racing in Plano, TX., I decided that I could live without the MT. For some reason, BMW dealers have given me their opinions on it but IDK how much I trust it, it is getting increasingly harder to find an MT unless you order it online brand new. I found almost zero used/CPO cars with the MT in the color/features I wanted, and it was almost equally as hard to find it in a new car.

+1. I am in total agreement here. I feel this too.
