Was cleaning the engine today...
Happened to notice the engine was dirty when I was refilling the windshield washer fluid...so I cleaned it up a bit.
And I must say...looking at that inline 6 is soooo sexy That's a driver's engine right there /end post |

Okay, I didn't post pics b/c it isn't THAT clean...no where like near new. I just used a foaming glass cleaner (it helps to get into nooks/crannies) and got about 90% of the dirt on the visible areas. I still didn't clean the underside of the hood, though.
Just wanted to share my love for the look of the engine sorry if it's not that interesting. |

I like the way our engines are laid out. Not a fan of plastic covers, and the wiring is pretty ugly under them, but still nice.
I spent about 3-4 hours cleaning last fall a few weeks after I bought the car. Definitely a nice feeling to see it all clean after all the work. 2k posts |

Cool man I'm big on clean engine bays too. I have a bit of cosmoline under some parts that I can't get too and it kills me. The rest of the cosmoline that I could get to took me a long time to clean, but there's nothing better than looking at a clean engine.

First, spray all the electrical connectors with WD40 (trust me on this). Then get some brake cleaner, and spray all areas that have gum build-up. Afterward, get a set of brushes (big and small ones), soap and water, and start scrubbing. Finally, rinse off with water, and use towels to dry off some areas. Don't start the car right away. Wait about couple of hours. That's what I do, and never had any problems. |

I used the Zep Foaming Glass Cleaner. It's safe on anything that's safe for water, and the foaming gets good coverage. You may have to do it a couple times, but it works surprisingly well for being rather mild.
