Oil Filter Housing leak...
Yesterday i took my car in at the local dealer get oil filter housing leak fixed... the final bill was $721. OUCH !!!
Thank God for extended warranty. My share turned out to be $44... Dealer charged for 4.5 hrs of labor. Does it really take that long to get it done? May be one of you can enlighten me. |

I believe this is what we see on our invoices. I'm sure extended warranty companies pay them less than what the initial qoute says, similar to how doctors get paid based on the lower negotiated rates.

Does it really take that long, of course not. Look at union movers, ever wonder why they're in such a hurry (actually they are good at what they do)? Because if they bill 10 hours for a job and complete it in 1/2 hour, they are paid for the 10 hours and can leave and go drink beer in the parking lot the rest of the day.
I got an estimate from a body shop that was $1400 on my Nissan. A forum member did the job for $130. I'm sure the same would be true for any BMW. It's like the 6 min. microfilter diy that costs $22 in parts, yet $180 at the dealership. What would actually concern me more is an oil leak like that. My wife's uncle's suburban's motor seized as a result of an oil leak from the aux cooler. Lucky in his case he was able to cheat and replace the bad bearing by trial/error without removing the crank. |
