RFT difference on E90 sedan versus E93 convertible

Hi all,

Please forgive my ignorance on tires. I'm sure someone here knows the answer to this or can enlighten me.

I find that the tires on my current 2011 E93 (LCI) seem "rougher" and louder (especially on bumps, etc.,) than those on my previous 2008 E90. I don't have the E90 any more so I cannot do a visual comparison, but....

These E93 RFTs seem much more "low profile" and thinner (distance from rim). Would that be why they seem louder? Is there a difference in RFT for the two makes/models? If so, what's different? Just curious....

Thanks in advance (I hope this isn't a repost...I did a search).

Jay

Maybe wheel diameter difference? You'll certainly hear--and feel--a difference if you went from 16" or 17" wheels to 18" wheels. If they look like a lower profile, then you probably went up in wheels size. Also, different brand tires will feel different, too.

+1

Changing size to a lower profile tire for a larger wheel will make a difference. You'll certainly feel more of the road.

Thanks for the replies. Just checked into this further. The E93 tires are 8 inches wide and 17 inches in diameter versus 16x7.0 on the E90 I had.

I can definitely feel the difference. Feels much sportier, though louder.
