Damn, Looks like you hit a big deer
But as other's have already said it depends on the value of the car and how much it'll cost to repair |

Sorry to hear, hope your comp takes care of it. We were visiting my parents this weekend and I don't know WTF is going on....we saw deer running around as if they owned the neighborhood, and my mom said there are lots of bears. I noticed a HS chick posting on facebook pics of bears in their backyards. None of these animals were around when I was in HS, it's like the whole community is experiencing a population explosion of wild animals...

did you get to keep the deer? lol
i LOOKS mostly like cosmetics... but here's a thing to look at: Bumper: $300+ depending on if it come from OEM or you buy one used OEM light $800 for a set ($400 for one) Hood: $400 Rear panel $300 Front Panel $300 Rear door $550 (possibly including the window from a recycling vendor) more if it's ordered from OEM... and ~$500 a section for new OEM paint scheme: $2500 - $3000... i doubt that'd be enough to be considered totaled... but that's only considering if it's only internal... if the engine is damaged in any way, it could be a pretty hefty pricetag as well Last edited by N0OS3; 09-26-2011 at 08:20 PM.. |

For me, fender/bumper/1 headlight cost $3k after labor and tax. I'd say it is totaled depending on year/miles |

that's uber expensive! O_O a friend of mine had a similar accident with a coyote and his coupe 328xi... he smashed his bumper, hood, headlight, panel, the passengers side mirror, and the passenger door... he found most of the parts online at different recycling vendors... the insurance company paid him the dividend from what was leftover after the repair (as if he bought everything OEM from the factory) and he was able to pocket nearly $3k so he bought some wheels and tires to throw on there too lol he said it was his excuse to start modding >__< the mod bug WILL get ahold of you eventually... one way or the other muahahaha

I hit one two weeks ago that did more damage to the front end then yours and so far its at 13k worth of damage and they are still finding odd and ends the adjuster missed. So my guess would be no. Mine however, had the mtech aero from the factory, busted intercooler, radiator, airbag deployment... Blah blah.. So i imagine that unless you somehow wrecked the engine, then there gonna fix her up for you.

$15k damage is my guess. Front is $10 and side is $5. Like others said it would only be totaled based on total value. You get to 70-80% of damage vs. value and the insurance company may decide to total. Better for you if they total because you get to buy another car that wasn't in an accident. Hope you weren't hurt.

OP, hope you are alright. in such cases most insurance company would steer towards totalling the car because it actually saves them money and trouble of fixing the car. also it would be better for you to get a new car (or another car) since you would not have a peace of mind driving a car that could possibly have unknown internal damage (frame, etc.) get a new car (335i!)

Thanks everyone for being so caring! I am fine thank goodness, i know it could have been alot worse! I should find out tomorrow what the insurance company is going to do. Im not sure how much damage was done under the hood? I know for sure the radiator is toast. I still cant beleive how fast it happened, i was in the inside lane and the deer jumped right out in front of me from the median, i had no time to react whatsoever.

OP..if you go on www.kbb.com you can find the book value of the car..if you compare that to the estimate of repairs you can easily determine if it will be a total loss...The major drawback of a total loss is that you will have a salvage title..
Rule of thumb is if the estimate to repair is more than 70% book value they "could" total it...there is alot of wiggle room..talk to your insurance adjuster and express to them that you DONT want them to assess a total loss...unfortunatly it really does dpend on the insurance company..hopfully u get a good outcome.. Also there is the CarFAx implications..not sure if the insurance reports this or not. Best of Luck |
