WTB: Winter Wheels & Tires for E90 2008 335xi
Hi all,
Looking to get a set of winter wheels and tires for my '08 335xi Sedan. First time in the market getting a winter set, but I'm looking to take the car to plenty of snowboarding trips this year. Couple of questions, was hoping the community could help me out. I currently have UHP summer tires on the 335xi. Which would be the best idea to survive a NY winter + winter roadtrips? 1) Getting a dedicated winter tire & wheel set. 2) Getting a set of tires and using the same 18" 162 BMW OEM wheels. 3) Just sticking with my current set-up (summer UHP non-RFTs) Also, how long do these winter tires usually last? Probably only going to put 2000 miles or so on them a winter. Can I slap them on in the fall and drive around with them? Or are the summer UHPs good to last till it gets below freezing. Been scouring the forums for sales on the tires, so if anyone has a set that'll fit an 08 E90 335xi please send me a PM. I'm located in Queens and would be able to pick up. And...lastly since I have BMW's tire and wheel insurance, do I need to get TPMS on the winter set as well? THANK YOU ALL! |

Get a dedicated set of wheels an tires. Narrow tire with lots of rubber is better for driving on snow and ice.
Summer tires are useless/dangerous in even of dusting of snow, regardless if 2wd or 4wd. I have been using Blizak WS-50 for 3 season going to Vt just about every other weekend, I have at least 2 or 3 winters left on them. I switch to winter around Thanksgiving and back to summer around Easter. |

Having a dedicated set of wheels/tires is an excellent idea. There are great options out there with regards to tires, and some are obviously more pricey than others. A local tire store by me suggested General Artimax snows, which I ended up getting for around $90 a pop. Honestly, I felt like I had more control on those tires with a square setup than my old Pathfinder with AWD. Hope this helps. |
