Akebono Pads - Bed in or not???

Just installed new OEM rotors front and back with Akebono pads. I've read in the forums both to bed in and not bed in. Anyone have anything official on this. Was thinking with new rotors bedding wasnt necessary. Initial bite right now sucks but know will get better in the next 500 miles.....thoughts?

Guess I found the answer: http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/tech/....jsp?techid=85

No bed-in procedure needed for Akebonos.....

As a rule of thumb, I would bed them in.

The pads should come with information regarding proper procedure.

Pretty sure all pads need to be bedding in to get the full potential out of them.

Exactly. You don't HAVE to bed them in, but if you want optimum performance you should.

Should have just done this from the get go but called Akebono Corporate HQ and they said there is no bed in process necessary for these pads.

I can certainly see a need for this with used rotors though....

Google the procedure. Basically you do some hard stops, just enough before ABS kicks in, and wear away a layer of pad material so it "forms" to the rotor surface.

On new rotors AND pads, it will help get some oil/residue off that is on the rotors from the factory.

Used or new, I would do it to ensure the highest possible performance. I know most manufacturers say it isn't necessary...but that's probably because most people don't how to do it properly.

Although the pads may be burnished(pre-bedded it), the pads and rotors as a pair aren't so it is a good idea to perform such a procedure to ensure noise free operation and have the best performance from your newly installed brakes.

The initial bite is not as good because the pads and rotors aren't burnished yet.
