E90 sedan and family of four?
Anyone here have an e90 sedan and have a decent sized family? Me and my wife have a 3 year old and a 2nd little one on the way. Just curious if 2 car seats will fit? What about cargo room for short trips, etc?

Yes, two car seats will fit. There are anchor points in the rear seats for them.
Cargo room for the sedan is decent but you might want to consider the E91 Sport Wagon. Of course I'm just a little biased..

My twin boys are 5 months old and I've had them in my E90 once, I have to pull the seat so far forward I can hardly drive. Good luck though.

Yeah its pretty cool, a lot of options like Sync, crazy sunroofs and the DVD players in headrest are also a nice touch. All in all its not that bad.

I have an E91 wagon and have a 3 year old and a 2 week old. The 3 year old is easy as his car seat is front-facing. The infant carrier is a little bit trickier - ended up with a Chicco that allows the passenger seat to move back far enough for an average size adult.
Overall, I would say that it is a fine way for a family of four to get around in somewhat snug/intimate environment. We do have another somewhat larger car that is use as the primary family transportation (Rav4)... Now that I have two rug rats something like a Ford Flex sounds awesome. |

I should mention my wife and I are both 5'6" so not exactly tall. If there were any pre owned wagons in our area I'd consider that. But no such luck. I already have an e90 for me, but since we only have one child and seat thus far I thought I'd ask others.

Front facing fit fine it's those rear facing car seats that take up the room. You will be fine with a sedan just have to deal with a little cramping until they're both in front facing.

You can easily transport a family of four in an e90. Carseats will fit fine (especially if you're short). I've been carting my 2 kids around since they were infants in my e46 sedan. Thankfully they are getting to be old enough to get in and out by themselves.

+1 you will be a little cramped and it will be a PITA for a bit. But since you already have an e90, you will be able to just deal with it. Alot easier once both are front facing.
If you or anyone out there in a similar situation were in the market to purchase a car right now, I would say go with something else over than 3 series sedan.

I have 2 teenagers and it's perfect. No car seats allowed on my leather. For long trips, we prefer my wife's GX470... Much more comfortable.

Ditto. The first child will soon be in a booster/hybrid from britax which takes up less space than the current convertible. That will then go rear facing for the new arrival. I guess what I'll do is try the convertible rear facing in my car and see how it goes.
I found a 535xi wagon but I feel it may be a bit out of the price range. :/ |

I had a E46 coupe which I bought right after my daughter was born. 2nd child came 2 years later...
Most of our family road trips, including long trips out of state or to cananda, we took the bmw instead of the SUV - better on fuel and more fun to drive Trunk has been packed to the point where there was not an inch of space left... Just got the E92 and kids have been in it a few times but I don't expect any changes to our road trips. Enjoy the 4 doors if you go that route!!

I don't have and will never have kids, BUT - in Europe, a 3-series is a rather large car, and very definitely a family car. So it would seem that the solution is to find SMALLER rugrat seats. Since Europeans have just as many kids as we do in the States, they must exist. Probably cost more though.

I've got a 3 year old and a 6 week old. As everyone has said, front facing is no problem. As for the rear facing, AVOID AMERICAN CAR SEATS. If you buy a European model, you'll have more room. I'd suggest the MaxiCosi CabrioFix (top safety pic in the US and Europe) with optional "Easybase":
Seat: http://maxi-cosi.com/products/car-se...cabriofix.aspx Another thing to watch-out for: A lot of the front-facing seats are much widder than they need to be. As a result, the middle seat in the rear is rendered useless. This is annoying if, for example, you're picking your monther-in-law up at the airport... |
