steering popping/cracking help please
when i turn my wheel at low speeds to stop then i can hear a popping/crackling sound. thought it was my tie rods but replaced both and still making the sound. i heard that the racks can go back and cause that.
I rebuilt the car from an accident and replaced the rack because it was damaged and now this rack is the one that makes the noise. has about 97k on the rack. 54k on the car. any thoughts on it? you guys think its the rack or can it be suspension? |

Have you tried tightening all the bolts/nuts on the rack? You're talking about the steering rack right?
Also check the bolts on the front endlinks, make sure they're tight....

does it sound like its coming from the steering column? the "SZL" steering position sensor uses a plastic disc that can make clicking sounds when failing.
pic of what im talking about.... http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/10/47/66 Last edited by mike3000fl; 09-17-2011 at 01:13 PM.. |
