Question Keep getting "replace brake pads" red warning light??

Does anyone perhaps know what would keep causing the "replace brake pads" red warning light to go off on my 2007 335i 6AT?? Recently had both front and back discs + pads replaced by BMW, but have subsquently had to go back 4 times to get the warning light reset?? BMW say they have replaced both the sensors and done a CBS re-calabration (whatever that means?), but the light still keeps tripping after driving for 2-3 days? Whats interesting is thats both front & back warning lights come on at exactly the same time, so doubt it could be an individual sensor??

Very frustrating as I keep having to remove the Procede each time I take my car in, and I haven't been able to re-fit the DP's and IC yet. Is there a possibility that I may have damaged a wire or pin in the ECU box when re-installing the Procede that may be causing this?
Ran a BT scan and no faults??
Or is the brake warning system controlled by a totally different module to the ECU??

Resetting the brake pads in the BMW software can cause an error light of the system thinks that the pads are more worn than what you are suggesting. This can have to do with the sensors.

I remember there was a brake pad diy that covered this. You might want to search for that and see if there is anything that BMW might have overlooked

does your version of procede remove the limiter on a non sport car? ie. you have a car with a limiter set at 135, not 155 and you are exceeding the 135 limit? This will happen to me sometimes and I think its the Active Autowerks SLD tricking the ecu and not wheel sensors. I am not sure, but I use BT to clear the codes myself for speed plausability and sometimes the brake sensors.

There is a SIB on this. Do a search. Basically known issue. You either have to take it to the dealer to reset or get yourself A BT cable and do it yourself.

Many thanks, however have searched and still couldn't find anything regarding a known issue about brake pad sensors triggering when running the Procede? Never had a problem until BMW replaced the pads + discs, now it keeps going off every couple of days? Am removing everything again tonight and will have to test a couple of days before re-installing

I've got a BT cable but couldn't find any codes to reset though? Or is there a separate procedure to reset the sensors using the BT software?

I've got a South African built 335i, limit is set at 250kph/155mph, but definitely have'nt exceeded that yet? BTW how do you clear the brake sensors using the BT, I cant see any codes?

Yes. You need to go into the Condition Based Service (CBS) part of the software (functions, condition based service) and set when the next brake maintenance is due. I would set it out far enough that you don't get a yellow light for a couple years at least.

Screen print here: http://www.bavariantechnic.com/Condi...edService.aspx

More detail on their wiki: http://wiki.bavariantechnic.com/index.php?title=CBS

Will be interesting to see what your CBS is for brake pads. If it's not extended out then they lied about reseting it for you. If it is out in the future than something may be wrong with your brake wear sensors.

You shouldn't have to do all of that. Search youtube for a video showing you how to reset the brake service light. Its been over a year since I did it, but you have to do a combination of inserting your key and pressing a couple of buttons. Then the light will go away (providing that you installed a working sensor correctly).

Many thanks for the info, managed to check and this is what I found??
Does this mean BMW didn't reset properly or alternatively is there something wrong with the wear sensors?

Thanks, looks like you had a very similar problem? Am going to try that if BMW doesnt get it right, will mention the SIB. BTW did your brake warning light always trigger directly after starting when putting into reverse??

did they really change the sensors? i had that issue with the rear brakes. As soon as i connected both cable together (basically closing the electric loop) i was able to reset it.
was driving me mad as well.

When you hit adjust value what does it say? Can you post a screen print of that? A service count of 14 and 16 seems very high, so they have definitely been trying to set it.

yeah they tried many times but nothing will happen till the sensors are working and giving the right signal. i suspect they did not change the sensors.... as soon as you bridge them the % status will appear straight away in bt tool.
seems they have no clue...

Cool thanks, will put some pressure on them now and ask for proof that the sensors have indeed been changed? Yep some of these local South African BMW agents really have no freakin clue, not the first time these guys cant fix silly issues

Still would like to see you post a picture of what the screen looks like if you hit the adjust values button. It is interesting that all other CBS items have a percentage next to them and the brake pads do not. Thanks.

Random Question, What if there are no brake pad indicators on the CBS screen ?
I see others have a front or rear symbol but I have neither.

freaking weird, but I just had my car in for a oil change and a service inspection.

After i got the car back I have the same exact issue with the e-brake dash light "brake" and when I turn off the car it has the car on the lift symbol for service.

When i scroll through the service info stuff both my front and rear brakes have ------ listed as miles left on them.

Im going back to the shop tomorrow to have him reflash it and try to reset them.
