Reps (and just wheels) vs "Real" Wheels: Pros, Cons, and Risks?
I'm looking at my options of upgrading wheels for e36, e90, or both.
And sorry for dumb questions, but I just wanted to ask: what are major differences between replica and just wheels sold for around $150 - $250 per wheel versus "real brand name" wheels sold for $800-$1000+ per wheel? How do these "real brand name" wheels compare to all others: What are cons? What are pros? What are the risks of getting non-brand name wheel? The price difference is significant, and I just want to understand if the difference of let's say $500-800 (or more) per wheel is justified. All that said, if I don't want to spend $$$ on "real thing", what are my options to get something nice looking, decent quality, reasonably priced? If someone could sum all thigs up, that would be great! Thank you very much!

Replica are almost always cast wheels (like most OEM wheels) where the most name brand wheels that are around 800-1000 each are forged wheels. So strength is in favor of the forged wheels. I know of plenty of people that have had replica wheels for many years and have had zero problems. Lots of people think having a replica id like a crime and you shouldn't do it. I personally don't care, I prefer forged (but will more then likely buy cast wheels) but it's not in everyones budget to spend 4-5K in wheels
options Linea Corse, and Varrstoen are are a couple good options for rep's |

Lets see.....
Reps 99% of the times are gravity or low pressure cast = cheap quality and heavy Real are usually form flow or forged (but sometimes are cast) = higher quality and lighter You have a greater chance of bending, cracking, ect with reps. Thats not to say all reps are poor quality, there are some very good reps sold by vendors on this forum (VMR, Alufelgen, ect). However, they will not compare to the real thing....which usually means a large chunk out of your pocket. I just bought a set of Morr VS8.2's, you can't beat their prices for forged wheels that weight only 19 lbs! If you are on a budget, also check out Apex APC-8, very affordable, very light, cast formed wheels (only 18" and lower).

I am looking at the MORRs! I really wanted to see them in person first. Did you get a chance to see them in person? What Vendor did you purchase them from? If you could PM me with some info that would be fantastic...

From my understanding most OEM is Low Pressure cast, as is Alufelgen. So is it safe to assume that Alufelgen reps are as strong as OEM? Or are not all LPC wheel strengths created equal?

Varrsoten wheels look good. Quote:
Starting my list of brands / vendors to check out. However, after trying to find MORR wheels, I just came across set costing ~$4,000 on M3 forum. Manufacturer does not have prices on website, and does not have list of vendors available (have to submit request for list). Can you share links? Thank you. Quote:
Nice wheels these WEDS, BTW After checking them out, I can see why Quote:
