So much PWM Kit Win... and a question.

So, after waiting out the last few weeks of my OE warranty, I had some time yesterday to install my PWM kit.

I'm running 7-29 maps on a Procede 2.5 and no other mods. (I went full bore with a B5 S4 once, and I prefer not to make a cantankerous mess out of this car.)

...but anyway, I've done a lot with methanol on many cars. This is by far the tightest, smoothest integration I've used in ten years of turbocharged tinkering.

This kit, coupled with User Tuning is nirvana for me. I haven't had much time to play on an appropriate stretch of road yet, but my tests this morning were OUTSTANDING. I look forward to getting down to test and tune.

Thank you Shiv, Rob, and the gang. I appreciate all the hard work, and refusal to cut corners.

My only gripe? The goddamned ricerocket *BLUE* silicone reducer elbow. This needs to be black, and I feel like someone got a good deal on leftover silicone when they sourced the parts for this kit.

The car is, of course, sorely in need of suspension now. I'll be doing the M3 bits shortly, followed by a Quaife LSD thereafter.

Since I must drive a 6AT and I much appreciate the stock/sleeper appeal, I will look to a BMW Performance exhaust, and not much more.

Question: With the B5 S4, we used to take off our stock downpipes and hog out the smaller precatalysts and move the O2 sensors back behind the main catalyst to suppress fault codes etc, and reinstall. Has the N54 community done anything similar? Frankly I haven't had the car in the air very much, and I haven't remembered to look at the catalyst arrangement, but my search here seems to indicate a different arrangement.

Am I way off, here?

You can get Downpipes for this car with no cats. The tune will take care of any Check engine lights.

I'm completely aware of that. I had the same option with my Audis. As I said though, I wish to preserve both the sleeper appeal of my car, and the environment. I choose not to drive a street car without functional catalysts.

I might invest in some race cats if there's nothing to be gained from removing the smaller pair of cats.

There are a secondary set of cats still in place even if you run catless downpipes.

Hey, Same Boat. And attmpting to keep the same approach to the 335i as you. After the S4 I learned alot, and it appears that a tune + Meth is ideal for this car, maybe the downpipes. What type of boost/ignition are you able to run on just a tune + Meth on 91? Type of improvement from tune only? Is it approaching Stage 3 S4 fast yet? I was spoiled, my old car was quicker than I thought, and I was only 3.7 FATS.

Also, did you keep the stock intake or did you have to switch to DCI. And if you piggie those DP's let us know how it works, it should work the same without having to relocate the O2's. If you'd want to run the stock SW a relocation of the O2's behind the secondaries should get it done, just like the good o'le days.

Wanted: Stock set of DPs for some experimentation. Will pay cash plus shipping to 91303 to someone who has switched to aftermarket downpipes.

PM with offers.

I just finished the setup last night, so the only seat time I have early came this morning, on the way to work. Clearly I wasn't pulling logs. I'll try to do a Map 0 vs. Map 1 vs. Map 4 comparison next week, as my car is completely stock less the Procede and PWM kit. (No DCI, even.)

I followed the docs and set Max Boost to 18psi, Start Boost to 65% and Start Ignition Correction to 0, per the documentation. I'm running 7-29 Autotuning maps, so I'm riding the autotune. I'll know more once I have some time to pull logs.

Seat of the pants says I'm actually faster than a strong K04 B5 car, though I had the TiAL GT turbo kit on my car when I decided to part out move on, so my point of reference is a bit blurry. I do miss Quattro and my E90 is accordingly in need to both M3 suspension and limited slip.

Congrats on the install
Just uploaded 7-29 last night. I had been running 5-10 since the PWM release. I have the same settings but start boost at 70%. New maps feel much better and with autotune I seem to be holding 17psi well. I know what you mean, I need a LSD and M3 bits like yesterday. My car gets wobbly under full acceleration. Tires and rims helped me out a lot with the traction. Are you on stock tires+rims?

I've got 18x9 wheels (TR MT1s) wearing BFG KDW/2 all the way around. This does help quite a bit.

Email sales at vishnu and ask Robert what it would take to get the new black one. As soon as I heard about the new one I was emailing them. I'm sure they can help you out.

You can get downpipes with race cats, and delete the secondary cats with straight pipes or resonators. You also have the choice of many cat backs.

Race cats are pointless and expensive. I have them, they still throw codes with the latest DME, only good thing is they pass a visual inspection. If I were to do it over again, I would have gone catless and saved a few hundo.
