To all e92 328i owners - difference between 328i & Z3 3.0i

Hey guys,

As the days count down and delivery of my e92 moves ever closer, the anxiety of driving the car and exploring all the new features & options is REALLY getting to me! Right now I'm driving a 2002 Z3 3.0i, and I'm curious to see how the 328i will stack up engine-wise. The power output is just about identical, however I know that the new 328i's motor has some differences that may or may not be felt. I've searched but couldn't really find any comparisons between these 2 cars. I'm hoping that a few of you fellow 328i owners have also driven a Z3 3.0i and could share some of your impressions on the engines - how they perform, acceleration, mid-range acceleration, passing, pulling power, etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Sal

I've never driven the Z3, but I know the 328i hits peak torque much quicker and is geared lower than the 330, so it should feel about the same despite being heavier.

Hi Sal,

I drove a Z4 3.0si...not really the comparison you were looking for. At any rate, it's difficult to compare a similar engine's characteristics on 2 different vehicles especially when there's a 400 lb difference between the 2.

I can sense your anxiety as time gets close to delivery. I'm sort of in a coma myself. That's the brain's defense mechanism so the body can heal. I hope I come out of it before Friday!

Steve

Hey Steve,
Yeah I know it's not a good comparison, but I figured I'd ask nonetheless since I really do enjoy driving the Z3. The power is plenty for everyday driving, so if the new car will perform close to this then I'll be a very happy man
Lol anxiety is not the word. I haven't been this excited since I was probably 6 or 7 the night before Christmas morning! I might be up around your way when I'm up in Jersey, I'll let you know if I am

No experience here, but one thing I know is the Z3 is going to be a legend soon with its limited output but 328i would be everywhere at that time.
OFF-TOPIC: is that girl in ur avatar the girl from food network??

Yeah, but the Z3 looks WAY better than the Z4 IMO It still turns heads whenever I drive it - especially being black on black/blue interior.

Yes, that's Giada

Yup! That is exactly what I was saying Z3 is one of the last remaining rare cars that could classify as classics years later. Most of the BMWs now are over-produced and populated and BMW is now not a rare thing anymore

Haha that is interested, she is pretty hot for a Food-Network cook huh?

I agree, we're going to sell it but I know deep down that this color combination plus being a 3.0 fully loaded it'll be a definite classic years down the road.
Dude, you have no idea. I'd marry her in a heartbeat if I could!
