6FL was made by Satan
<rant>
This thing is just a huge pos. Since day one the 6FL has been very glitchy and constantly locks up my iPod or reboots it. When this happens the music abruptly stops and the display shows my iPod as not connected. This can happen several times in the same day. Sometimes although rarely it reconnects on its own after a minute but you've already lost your place in a playlist, track, etc. Most of the time when it disconnects I have to physically reboot my iPod because it causes it to hang and becomes unresponsive. It's not my iPod that's the issue. I've tried it with another iPod I have and my iPhone, same thing happens to them. The 6FL interface is just poorly designed and works like sh!t. Today was expecially frustrating because it took me 20m to get the damn thing to play again. It started when it just abruptly stopped playing this morning. While driving I was hoping it would just reconnect, but it never did. So at a light I reboot my iPod but 6FL wouldn't work right showing 'uknown artist' no matter what track I selected to play and no audio would come out and the timer for the track was stuck at 00:00. So I reboot my iPod again even though it looked fine and I was able to browse through it's native interface. Still nothing with the 6FL. At this point I pull over and after unplugging/pluggin, rebooting, cursing, looking around with the 'are you F'n kidding me face', I decide to restart the car. I turn it off with the iPod still connected, wait about 1/2m and restart it. Bam, it starts to work again. Then about 5m later it disconnects on me. I swear if 6FL was an easily removable piece of hardware I would have thrown it in front of my car and ran it over several times. And the best kicker is one of the things bragged about with the new 6FL was the ability for owners to update it themselves when new software updates are released. Last update was year ago. Evil and worthless!!! </rant> |

You talkin' about the new 6FL with only a USB cable? Works perfect for me. Make sure your cable isn't shit, latest firmware on iDevice, and not jailbroken.
Same thing applies with the older 6FL |

Yes, it's the new one. My iPod is not jailbroken and has the latest firmware. It's only a year old. I've tried three cables, the original one and two others. I've even restored my iPod several times. Nothing works. I know others have had similar problems.

You should probably tale it in to the dealers. My '11 never did any of that, and neither did my '07. Sure, there are those little annoying other glitches, usually playlist display related, but nothing like yours.

The iPod adapter in my 128i Vert works perfectly...not sure if it's the same as in the OP's car or not, but no complaints here. No bluetooth or iDrive, though, so maybe that makes it different.

I brought up this issue when I took her in for the last oil change. They said there are no updates for the 6FL which I already knew and without being able to see it for themselves there wasn't anything they could do. That's the problem with this issue, you cannot just recreate it. It could play for over an hour without issue and other times play for a few minutes before it happens again. But you know it will never happen when I'm at the dealer.

Mine has worked fine with 3 different iPods. I switched out one Y-cable the first year but that was due to a poor connection.
