Short shifter handle, best $100 you can spend for a manual 3'er!

I went on a spree this past week and bought several items for my 335i. I was most impressed with the OEM sports short shifter. Now the height and throw is just right, and that rubberish feeling is now gone. The shift is so much more crisp. I feel that I can downshift more precise too. IMO, $100 well spent! All you manual drivers need to get one!

i wonder how this is compared to Rogue's SSK. I mean the short shift knob is just that...a knob right?

Here is the link..
https://secure.webmakerx.net/Default....crownauto.com

in line 2, enter 25110406895 for part number and choose BMW.

This is the black sport shifter with NO "M" on top. Just R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. I was also pleasant that it is not the perforated leather as I've seen in pictures. It matches my M steering wheel much better!

Yes, it is just a knob that comes with the boot as well. The knob is about an inch lower than stock. It's the same material used on the steering wheel. I was not expecting much, but I feel that the shift is a lot more crisp, and I love it...especially at WOT runs!

LOL sure, I was going to wait until the weather clears up before I do a photoshoot. But I will give a couple of pictures just for comparison. Give me about 20 or so before I post up the pictures.

I am confused of why people call it a short "shifter"...when all it is is a sharter shift knob

Thread title is misleading...what you have a is a shorter shift knob...and it does nothing for the mile-long throw that BMW integrated into their transmission.

Short shifter or (SSK) is the whole linkage, and it reduces the distance going from gear to gear, to speed up shifts and to improve precision. That's what i've been dying to get for this car, the throw is horribly long...

Looks good though, but a 100 bucks just for that?

Not true that it doesn't shorten the throw. Maybe not as much as changing the linkage but it does shorten it.

A little geometry. If you move two different length levers through the same degree of arc, the distance travled by the top of the lever will be less for the shorter lever, basic math. If the shift lever was not fixed at the bottom and moved the same as the top you would be right, but it is.

I have the same knob and it makes shifting feel much better. Whether it is due to the shorter throw or just that it falls better to my hand I can't tell, but I do like it. It is also easy to do, cheaper than a full linkage change and reversable in seconds. I agree, $100 well spent.

This shift knob does reduce the throw as it sits one inch lowered than stock. I did not want to go with the traditional B & M short shifter that includes the linkage, bushing, etc because it was more money, and I was never a fan of them. They make the throw too short and take the fun out of it.

I don't know what you expected, but I've let a few of my friends drive the car since last night and they all felt a difference. It's just a minor shortened throw which is the perfect range IMO. I hate the super short throws like on some of my friends' cars where you only move the shifter a couple of millimeters to change gears.

True, but thats not the traditional meaning of the "short shifter". We can just grab further down the knob to simulate what the new knob would feel like.

I still got it though :rocks: Knobs do make a tremendous difference in feel.
