Regular Bi-Xenon vs Adaptive Bi-Xenons...

My dealer is telling me that they are not worth it, making merely 15 degrees to the right and 5 degrees to the left.....

So, for $400, are they worth the upgrade? Can't say $400 is a lot, but I don't like to spent an extra cent on anything that I will feel not making much of a difference down the road.....

Please advice. Thanks!

On my car it feels like there's no turn to the left at all.

I love this feature. It is one of the many BMW touches that makes the car unique, and yes it is noticeable at night when you turn.

Before I purchased my car, I watched a video on the BMWUSA.com website that explained this feature extensively.

Did you set the light switch to automatic? That's how you activate the 'adaptive' feature.

The difference is noticeable, anytime there is little or no street lighting. This is a standard feature in the E92 (for the US market). Now that I've used it for approx. 5 months I wouldn't want to give it up. It is a safety feature and it might help you avoid an accident.

Love it! I'm still amazed at how well it follows the curves of a winding road. Are the dealers open late there on weekdays? Perhaps you should drop by and take a quick drive around the corner to see for yourself how well they work, it's really hard to notice if you're in the passenger seat though so make sure you're the one doing the driving.

I just noticed your user name. Where are you from, Biscotti? Do you actually have Italian roots?

Instead of using your head protractor (5 degrees to the left and 15 degrees to the right), watch the video I posted the link to a few posts up and see for yourself. No need to think about how it "sounds," observe how it looks visually.

Here's the link again:

Seriously do go for it. It's pricey and I don't see real benefits of it, and I have these lights. Skansa is right, at least in my case, I mostly drive on a freeway where the turn of headlights is practically invisible. Save up money for some baller rims.

I think the adaptive HIDs are not worth the money. On curvey roads they do make a difference, however the Canadian version seems to be different than the US version. I think the US versions go 15 deg. both left and right. Since the US cars only come with adaptive HIDs its hard to know if the beam pattern for the non HIDs is different (i.e. a wider spread). One thing is if you read threads about the HIDs is that almost everyone agrees the factory setting for hight of the beam is too low and needs adjustment up a few degrees.
