Received this offer from a local respected installer. What do you think?

JBL MS-8
2-kenwood excelon 8" shallow woofers
2-kenwood excelon 4 channel amp (small footprint design)
- all speakers will be powered by the kenwwod amps With labor, wiring and shop materials you are at 3130.43 out the door. this would make a great sounding system.

$1200 in equipment, $2000 in labor and no front/rear speaker upgrade. Think about that.

You can do much better than that for half the money. Besides, what's the installer gonna do once he realizes that the Kenwood woofers don't fit?

No. Bad job. Let's try again: contact VP Electricity of Musicar NorthWest, and he will tell you exactly what you need to have a great system.

Whatever shop you went to has absolutely no clue how to make a "great system".

Looked into a set of the Kenwoods a while back. Not sure if the ones you are talking about are the same ones but the ones I looked at would not fit under the seats. Too deep even with a spacer.

Also you didn't identify the year of your car

The car model year and type will determine what you can put in
Coupes have shallow doors.

There are three different basic systems identify yours
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1266451970

If you are unlucky enough to have the US 2010 early 2011 model you need
a processor to flatten the head output before amping anything, unless you have
Logic 7, as the base model stereo is an unamplified system. (head power only)
also Logic 7 also is not easy to modify.

I agree with the general consensus...

After doing a bit of homework and research on the forums, I ended up contacting VP Electricity of Musicar NorthWest and ordering their Level 1 system for a fraction of the cost quoted by local installer.

Granted I will be installing it, but considering all of the effort that they go through to make the system pretty much plug and play, it should be a pretty simple job. Definitely give them a shout before you end up doing anything, if for nothing more than another opinion on your available options.
