New warning light on 335I coupe

Just when I thought I have seen all the possible warning lights in my car, today after work my car came up with a new one. It's a yellow steering wheel with a lock on it and number 1 inside the lock. The car would not start. It took me three tries to start the car and the warning light went away.

I called my BMW dealer to inquire about the warning light, and was told that this is a potential problem with the steering column electrical circuit. They would like to make an appointment for next week. I don't have the time and the patience to take it in again and again. This game is getting so old, it's not funny. And the more it happens, the more it fills me with disgust for the car and the company that built it.

This is not cool at all. It appears that my car loves the dealership more than me. It's been in the shop every month for a couple of days since September when I bought it. This month, it will be in the shop two times, since last Friday they replaced the rear calipers to stop the wheels from squealing.

I would not have thought in a million years that BMW can put out such a crappy product. Oh well, live and learn, Grasshoper )

Any interested buyers out there?

I feel you. It was the same for my E90 too when I first got it. But as long as the problem is not crucial and I get a BMW loaner car I was fine with it. I hope the problems will be resolved soon and forget it and enjoy the car!

Try wiggling the steering wheel next time - although it's electric, I'm sure it could have the same issue as the mechanical type that needs help if the steering wheel is turned tight against it.

This happened to me today twice. Never happened in the 1 year I owned it, too.

It's nice that the dealership lets you borrow the car every once in a while.

That would be really annoying but in the end they are small issues. Once fixed you will have endless joy of BMW's superior drive and cornering ability.

Nah, the OP seems thoroughly disgusted with his purchase. And to think that others will still wait 4 mos. for what he wants so desparately to get rid of. Life is ironic to say the least.

I have a 2006 325i. There are many threads on this problem. Defect in the electric unlocking mechanism in the steering column. Dealer gave me a loaner (X-3), and replaced steering column. This cannot be fixed, must be replaced. It will probably take 2 days as most dealers have to get the steering wheel post from a central supply warehouse. BMW also must authorize the repair.

defects anyone?

Yeah, my car seems to run thru all the defects possible.

It was in the dealer two weeks ago to have the calipers replaced.

At the end of March, the TPMS was throwing faults left and right. I took it in on a Thursday and the reset it, and then it went crazy the following Monday, and it took them 30 minutes to reset it.

Two weeks before that, the car was in the shop to have the wheels deglazed and campherized.

The month before that, one of the RFT's went bust and the car was in for 2 days to have it replaced.

The month before that, the back light circuit went out and the car was in to have new lights replaced.

The month before that, the seat belt butler broke twice and the car was in to have it replaced. On three different days.

The month before that, the fuel pump bombed and the car was in the shop for two weeks to have it fixed.

Two weeks after they replaced the fuel pump, they asked me to bring the car in for some recalls.

Now, I don't mean to complain and sound like a jerk, it's just that these lights turn on and you have to take care of them. You just can't ignore them and drive like nothing's going on.

So, they are going to replace the steering column next. Will that be the last of the defects? This is my first bimmer, but my experience is not entirely pleasant. Yesterday I was in the parking lot for 15 minutes, wondering, praying that my car starts so I can drive home. And, I'm paying $50K for this ultimate driving machine )

They kept putting air in the tires and resetting the TPMS. However, it would not shut up. So then, it occured to them to look for a nail. And they found one. Then, they replaced the tire. The work was covered by my extended wheel and tire warranty. The rubber was $420.

That's bullshit. If I spend $40-50k for a car I don't expect "small issues". If I want small issues I would buy a Yugo.
