BMW N/A shared production & oil cooler info w/me today
Okay, just off the phone with BMW NA and checking on my build status (I got a VIN today!! ) and asked about:
1. Clarification of what is considered the build date: this is the second to last day before it rolls OFF the assembly line. Last day is reserved for Dyno check, QA review, and signing off all forms and placing outside for routing. Cars can range from 4-7 days to build. 2. Oil coolers: All 335i with sport are now receiving oil coolers. He said it went into effect with cars entering production after 1 MARCH 07. 3. I asked "what about the unlucky folks who received thier cars without the oil coolers?" and he said "Man, you should see the fuss". There is a ton of intra-traffic on the subject. BMW has devoted a team to review the data, past build #'s, and to propose a response to the Dept. Heads. They are definitely all over it, he said it was #1 on their priority list, as best as he could tell. He didn't hold nothing back, very honest, but he could not lean towards the outcome. All for now, I'm calling for another update Tues morning and I'll post again. Peace out.

Did you mean to say March 1st or is your car also going to be sans cooler? Anyway, I'm one of those "unlucky folks" who didn't get the oil cooler. I haven't noticed out-of-whack temps on my car yet, but our 115 degree weather is coming shortly and I only have 200 miles left on my break-in. It will be interesting to see how hot it gets when subject to my "enthusiastic" driving style. |

Actually, the difference btwn sport and non sport are the seats, speed governor and wheels. Sport tuned suspension on both models. I have a 6MT without sports package and missing an oil cooler however temps have NEVER exceeded 250 degrees.

Did you get any pictures of her being born. See if you can keep the umbilical cord. I did on mine. Have it in a bottle on my mantel.

I went for a test drive today in an E92 335i sedan with MT and NO sport package. Drove the piss out of it by myself, climbing a big hill and using all the revs and power in 2nd, 3rd and some 4th gears.
Oil temps just kept climbing. I saw as high as 270 F. That worries me. I popped the hood afterwards and am pretty sure on the right front corner of the engine compartment what an oil cooler. I track my cars, and am planning on taking my new 335i (when I get it in Aug) to a couple of tracks. Having the oil get to 270 just on a back roads test drive with a 335i with oil cooler is VERY concerning.
